The NEW 2025 Best AFFORDABLE Irons – TAKOMO RIVALS!?
With DTC irons taking over the golfing world in 2025, today I have a set of golf clubs which could potentially transform the game forever. Now, I’ve already tested a set from this company, and today we have a slightly more forgiving set than the ones we had. You see, the guys at HGolf have sent me their latest cavity back irons, and as you can see, they look absolutely gorgeous. So, these are the Burley series CB irons. A couple of weeks ago, we did test the Burley series blade irons, and I really enjoyed them, and they’re much more affordable than the likes of Tailor Made, Titleless, Callaway, Mizuno, PXG, and all the rest. So, let’s get out on the golf course today with the CB irons, see what they’re all about, and see potentially if these could be the new Tacomaos of 2025. So, I think it’s fair to say bagger appealwise, these irons are certainly doing it for me. So guys, get in the comments below. What do you think to the look of these H Irons? Now, we did test a blade version of these not so long ago. It’s fair to say I really, really enjoyed them. And for that price, circuit kind of 700 pounds. I’ll put the exact price on screen now cuz I’m not entirely sure what these ones are. They are a huge contender for a lot of people’s golf bags. And you can see we even have I love this. You know, when you have like the specifics on the heads. So, obviously the heads will come differently and then the guys in Australia will kind of put these together. You can see we have KBS shafts in here, 120s, so you get those premium components. The one thing that I wasn’t overly bothered about were the grips. But actually, Gaz, who we did the video with, really, really liked the grips on the blades. So, realistically, we can’t go too wrong with that, can we? I think this is my favorite part of every day, taking those off. Now, these do look a lot different to the bladed irons that we tested. We’ll put a couple of kind of snippets on screen now, and you can really see that kind of cavity back design. You can see that low CG. And you can see just how good this four iron looks. Now down at the ball, it does look a lot more forgiving than the bladed iron. You can really see that kind of tiny bit of offset, but really, really nice. I think it’s the perfect shape top line. So, if these feel as good as a set of Tacomaos and perform as good essentially, they have to be in the equation, don’t they? Isn’t it funny how all these DTC brands are located kind of around the world? Tacomao from Finland. We have Calli from Scotland. We have H from the Queensland from Surface Paradise in Australia. Right. What? Can I do that? I thought that was a good one. Yeah, it went bad. Sure. I’ve been to Australia. I can do it. That’s what you said to Alex. Yeah, fair enough. Yeah. Um, we’ve actually got quite thick grips on here as well, so I quite like that. But let’s a couple of shots with this four. Did you hear that? I did. Wow. That I don’t know what just happened there, but that felt remarkable. And I do feel like potentially. So, these are going to be like a an argument in the Tacoma 2011. Potentially the 301, more like the 2011, I think. But a split set of these. So these are of course the burly series CB and potentially the Burley series MB in the lower end. That’s what Tacomao did exceptionally well and this is for the guys at um H if you’re watching. Sure you probably are. I hope you are. Well, it’s a bit Yeah, I really hope you’re watching. Um potentially try and offer them in a split set because I do feel like that could be a really really nice progression for a lot of golfers. A lot of golfers feel the need to want bladed irons in the short irons and feel the need to want CBS in the long irons, which I we’re going to test them all the way through the bag. And I do feel like the if the CB looks good in the short irons, then you’re winning cuz you can just have the full set of them and have that forgiveness. That’s another one. That’s another one. And I love that ball flight that I’m getting. It’s like mid-flight, isn’t it? It’s not low. It’s not high. And the turf interaction is really nice as well. I’m just kind of brushing that gorgeous Woolly Park turf here. And guys, I’m going to give the guys at Woolly Park a bit of a cuz it’s remarkable, isn’t it? Brilliant. That wasn’t very nice. But um so get in the comments below. And in fact, go and follow the guys at Instagram at Woolly Park and just tell them James said hi. I’m going to put this into quite a few videos and see how many people says hi cuz John works his socks off for this place. So, a lot of people don’t potentially appreciate it, but we do quite a lot. Right. Can we play a low stinger, Bob? Oh, yeah. Do you think sometimes with CBS you can’t? It’s just easier to launch. Did you see that? Did you see how low that was? It’s still running, isn’t it? Still running on the center line. And that was a bit towy as well. Right, we’ve got the four iron out the way, which is always we try and do this early because it can be a bit embarrassing, but that was really, really good. I like the fererals. Yeah, the fererals look So, let’s talk about the the looks of them because the fererals look really, really nice. But also, I think the design of them, it’s it’s not You know what the really good thing is? It’s not copied anyone. Cuz a lot of brands will go, “Oh, you know what? Those things look good. Let’s try and make them look like that.” But really, it’s their own kind of design. And I appreciate that a lot. One thing, make sure you get all the You can see there’s like a little step there. That’s obviously for CG and they’ve obviously done it, but that could be a bit of a you don’t, you know, like it’s okay if you hit a good shot, you know, if you hit a bad shot. Don’t want to be doing that. Right, let’s continue. Let’s play some more of them and let’s take some more rappers off because the one thing that I like is the look of like the Oh, I’ve got the a wedge. So, I really really enjoyed the a wedge in the blades and it’s not a club that I would usually have. I’d usually just go with like a kind of vokei or something like that. But I actually performed really really well with that. So we’ll test that as well when we get out there. Out there. We are out there already, aren’t we, Bob? How you how you enjoying Bob being miked up? Not said much, have you? I’m scared. You’re scared, guys. Um # let Bobby talk. Say it, Bob. Let me talk. Me talk. Let me talk. This is why you don’t have a mic, Bob. This is why we keep you silent. If you’re wondering why Bob’s um quoting uh Kevin De Bruyne because he could be Kevin De Bruyne’s twin brother. There we go. Um but so 102 yards here and this is where a club like this. It’s okay getting in a studio. It’s okay potentially saying I can hit it 120 130 because it’s a 52 53 50°ree. But realistically, if you’re replacing a proper versatile wedge with one of these, you’re going to want to be able to hit like proper knockdown shots with it because this is where you would be attacking the green and would be attacking the flag. So, how close can we hit it with this HA wedge? Looks gorgeous actually. It’s really, really nice. What kind of movement can we get? Sounded nice. It sounded incredible. Oh, great shot. Do we need to anymore? Can we leave it at that? That was And it feels like like you look at where I’ve hit that from. I think the shape of it for me really does inspire you with a bit of confidence just to be able to play. The word I’m thinking is compact. Is that right? Like I’m staying compact and I’m just kind of forward pressing it and getting it there. That’s gone the perfect distance. So scoring clubs wise, we’ve proved it can be done. And then it’s just a case of how consistent can you be because that one could be even better. Oh wow. Go in. Should we talk turf interaction? Cuz the the way those that’s glided through the turf, the one thing these don’t necessarily have that the Tacoma kind of 301s do have is that kind of shame leading edge. You can see what I mean here by like the Tacomaos and other brands of it’s got a little bit but they’ve really shampered that away. Now, H haven’t done that, but what they have done is given you quite a wide sole area here. So, it probably acts as something similar. It acts to allow it to glide through. One of those shots was a little bit duffy. Which one do you think it was? The first or the second? Second. Second one. Yeah. I was hoping you couldn’t tell, but yeah, a little bit duffy, but it’s actually gone closer than the first one. And that’s what you want from your irions. It’s like a machine, isn’t it, Bob? Wow. I think that for three shots testing a club I’ve never hit, albeit with a really familiar shaft in is extraordinary. And then you put the price on that and the feel and the look on it. The big brands should be really really worried because not only there’s Tacoma, there’s Cali, there’s all these brands that that we discussed. There’s Ram now, there’s Lynx, there’s countless. But now even the Aussies are coming for you. Nobody wants that, do they? Cy guys, we’re we’re gonna need some feedback on allowing Bobby freedom of speech because I’m not sure if this is but you look at the consistency of these three shots. And actually, so the Duffy one, which I thought was the best one, is the worst one. The reason for that is it won’t have had the spin rate because it was a little bit duffy. But again, I feel like it’s done pretty well. I feel like it’s performed as we would want to. Now, with a wedge like this as well, well, first of all, my favorite par 3 is coming up. So stay tuned because we’re going to hit a couple of shots. Oh, stop it. Look at Bobby. That guy criy, mate. Oh, look at the size of it, mate. into that. But you can see what we mean by stoppage power because that one was the Duffy one. It’s released all the way up there. Whereas when we struck it really, really well, it stopped within like 2 ft of itself. So, I believe that one pitched there just short of the green. So, fill those in and repair them. But with a club like this, it is important that they feel nice. And feel is something where potentially you might think, “Oh, it’s just like an added bonus. It’s an extra.” But it’s not because around the greens with short irons, it needs to feel nice so you can play those delicate chips. And when we were using the blades of these clubs, the burly series blades, they felt phenomenal. Now, the reason why that’s important is for shots like this, if you can gauge that element of feel, you can really judge that distance control nicely. And that’s gone far too well for me to worry about hitting anymore. But it really does prove the point that to be honest, I’m not sure if you would ever need the blades because these look that good down at the ball, perform that well even in the kind of this is the lowest iron there is the gap wedge. Really, I’d just potentially look a full set of these. Go on. Right, we’ve spoken long irons, we’ve spoken short irons. Let’s discuss some of the mid irons in this H set and then we’ll see if potentially these are fantastic value for money or like we’ve said in a couple of videos, potential cheap. Okay, so last time I tested the H irons, we tested the blades. Now, I’ve never actually got the numbers for those, so I’ll compare them in this video for you, so you’re getting a bit of a a bonus here. I’ll go bladed seven iron first, then we’ll move into the CB, which this video is about. I’ve set a green out there at 171. I think that might be pushing it a bit, but I do feel like although they are traditional blades, it can potentially give us some pretty good distance. I’ve just pulled that one to the left ever so slightly. And what’s that carrying? That still carried 162, spinning at 58. You can see I’ve pulled it a touch. So, the spin rate has dropped slightly. Let’s keep moving. See if I can just draw it into that left leg. Oh, that felt absolutely fantastic. It’s so It’s like a carbon copy, but a better strike. Better strike, more spin. We’ve actually lost a bit of distance there at 159. That’s awful. That’s the one where you really wish you’d have got the CB. Like carry-wise, it’s not done bad. It’s carried 155 160 total. So, it’s done okay, but it’s still over to the left. Let’s go one more, then we’ll jump into these CBS that the video is about. Amazing how they are all in such a close proximity to one another. 162. Now, I happen to think that these could make a fantastic split set as well. Like if you wanted maybe 8 N wedge in the blade, you could potentially then go CB in the longer irons. But speaking of said longer irons, straight away, these look more chunky, more going on. Now that’s bottomy. So that’ll be interesting to see how far that one does go. Look at that. It’s still a 160 carry. It’s towards that flag. And it’s a 1 167 total. 5 a half th000 spin. I do feel like there’s little offset on these and I feel like that does help me. You maybe saw that out on the golf course. I’m fighting a bit of a pull at the moment. Like that. Come on. It’s a great strike though. Great strike and trying to come back. Immediately more distance with the CB. That’s probably a a five to six yard longer carry on the good shot that I hit with the blade. Now really, you’re not losing a lot in terms of feel cuz they feel phenomenal. If anything, I potentially say, look at that. Exactly on that left side again. 167 carry. I’d say the CBS feel better than the blades to be honest. I don’t know if I’ve got more more potential confidence stood over it. I’ve always used blades though back in the day. That’s as good as I can hit a golf shot. That is as good as I’ve got. That’s going to carry over 170 172 and quite close to that target. Actually, I’m going to move that target from the left side of the green because it’s tempting me to go. But guys, you can see quite a difference there in these clubs. So, if you’re going to check them out, make sure you get the right ones. Tell grouping wise, that’s incredible, isn’t it? Incredible. What distance do we have in this is my favorite hole in the course. Bob, we have 172 playing 176. Right. Time of filming. I’ve not done the numbers for these. They will be in the video. The new hope the new simulator’s finished now. Um, should we try mus seven or hit a six? Seven. Seven. It’s warm. Seven. It’s warm. Right. Seven. It’s warm. I’m going to go him out in a moment. There we go. Off. Right. They do look good, don’t they? Only balls. Bob, what are we doing? What? It’s like amateur hour, isn’t it? How dare you? I’m going to bring a six as well, just in case we don’t get there with the first one cuz it’s Daff trying to hammer them. They obviously they’re not distance irons. They’re not hollow bodied. They are a forged iron, but I just think there’s a lot more to them in ter Oh, no. I tried to rest that on there to get it dry as well. We’re definitely hammering seven now, aren’t we? I don’t know why, but I feel really confident with them. And the grips are growing on me. The grips would just be a case of see how long they last. I think you think this is the right club. Yeah. Yeah. I’ve hit that so good. Take the kick. Take the kick. Oh, it’s the wrong side. Took a bad bounce. Good strike though. Just out there to the left, which has been my bad shot recently. Really? Give that a bit of a clean. Now we’re talking. They sound phenomenal, don’t they? Yeah, they do. And that is up there as well. I think that’s middle of the green. The last one I’m going to hit, I’m going to hit a six with a lovely moist grip cuz I think distance-wise they’re just going to be like a normal set of nice forged irons. I’ll put the loft on screen as well so you can see actually because a lot of people do find that really really interesting. And turf interactions being really nice as well as you go down them. Now, I do love the consistency of the look, and that might not mean a lot to a lot of people, but they do look really, really nice and consistent. I’ve tried to hit draw. Should I try and fade this in? Sure. With a six. Check the workability. Fade. Fade. Oh, it stayed there. Bob, you know what? I think forgiveness element is going to be exceptional cuz I have struggled to work them a little bit like potentially you could with the blades. But if we’re talking workability over forgiveness, I’d have the forgiveness of these all day long. Guys, if you enjoyed that, smash that subscribe button below. Thank you so much for your time. I’m going to hit one more cuz I’ve really enjoyed hitting them and I think it’s a six iron. Do you want to hit one, Bob? Yeah, please. This doesn’t always happen in reviews either, does it? Sometimes we just call it. But I have really enjoyed it. Straightest iron shots I’ve ever seen. What do you want? Uh, Callaway, please. I pulled it again. Come on. Very consistent. Yeah, the grip’s good, isn’t it? The grip’s like really grown on me. Oh, stop it. Look at Bobby. That guy. Oh, good. They’re nice them. They feel really nice. Damian, Mr. Steal your girl Lewis, let me talk mate. Look at the size of it, mate. Might be a croc laying under a lever. Blinding.

I'll bet the company are really happy with you! 😊
They look really good. You’ve totally convinced me that you really do care about the price of golf clubs in today’s market, so bloody good for you James 👍🏌️like the end bit of the vid with Bob 👍
Great to see these DTC companies providing quality clubs at a more affordable price
Would like you to do the new sub70s
Pay rise for Bobby 👍
Hi James, love the videos. When talking about design you said you liked them because they haven't copied anyone. Actually they look a lot like Honma TR20P irons and the club numbers look like a very similar font to what Honma have used in recent years. It would be interesting to get your thoughts now that I've mentioned it.
luv miked up bob
On the fence on these three sets.
Maltby sti2
Takomo 101
These vice irons
Turns out when you don't have to pay Tiger woods, you can sell clubs for a reasonable amount of money. Who knew?
Price-wise they come in a little cheaper than a set of Wilson DynaPwr Forged irons here in Australia. I am a Lamkin Crossline kinda guy but happy to live with any grip that grips!
Great channel, good golf… Accents need work 😂
James, as much as you love these, you still will not put them in the bag will you?? Shame on you
They must pay you good takomo I know but they are not the best quality that I know
They look great, but just looked at the price and 6 – AW looks cheap at £518. But you then add on £98.25 shipping and then 20% import tax when it hits the UK and the total cost is £720, not so cheap after all, shame a they do look good.
No lefties.
😜 Hi Robbo from Down Under. Love the work that you, Bobby and all your guests do on the channel. Love the testing of clubs and equipment. As a mid handicapper I would love to see a few tips and tricks videos as well.
I really enjoy your reviews on all the various clubs. I would love to see you review the Maltby STi2 Gen2 irons. Continued Success
Nice set of clubs. Good review. Glad Bobby finally gets a mic. With all the post editing banter and all the comebacks he has on most videos, funny to see him nervous to talk now. Great video boys. Cheers!
Bobby speaking is going to really make your videos even better James.
Nicely shaped iron; the font/branding is poorly executed.
Brilliant Bobby 😆😆😆
#LetBobTalk
In the saturated Chinese produced self-branded iron market, the real winner: KBS. They’re providing the shafts for all of these brands.
Let Bobby taik😅please 👊🏻✌🏻
They remind of Maltby components from Golfsmith.
It’s about time. Putting a mic on that boy.
Love having Bob in the mic, it just makes the video have such a relaxed vibe and i think brings out the best in you too James ❤
Bobby has the power to speak and says Crikey, need to silence him again James 😂, only joking #letbobbyspeak
For the price I might just buy some. How long is delivery though?
BLIMEY!
Bob should be allowed to commentate on 1 hole every sunday
And then keep it quiet in the cheap seats💪🤐👍
Let Bobby talk
So good James, Thanks for reviewing our CB Irons. Loved theAussies references 😂
Hey James – in watching you swing indoors, you are/were coming over the top and really throwing your right shoulder around instead of down. Hence the shots going left. Hope this helps…..MG
Would love to see an updated video for lynx irons as I'm looking for an affordable set of irons, and their advert is all over my Facebook 😂
You guys need to clean your sensor/lens 😂 epic content! But the dot in the lower center screen is getting me😂
