TEANECK — Construction has begun on a $6 million clubhouse facility for Bergen County’s 18-hole, 140-acre Overpeck Golf Course.
The golf course is part of the county’s 811-acre Overpeck Park. It is one of six golf courses operated by Bergen County, and the only one open all year for play, said county spokesman Derek Sands.
“The old clubhouse has been torn down, and for the past few years, they have been operating out of a modular trailer,” Sands said Friday. “There is no impact on the golf season.”
The project includes a 2,774-square-foot clubhouse with a lobby, a pro shop, food amenities, office space and public restrooms. Also included will be a 1,197-square-foot exterior deck and a 2,774-square-foot golf cart storage garage with electric charging stations to support up to 60 golf carts.
“This investment will strengthen the golf experience, support continued growth in the game and ensure that Bergen County remains a leader in public recreation,” County Executive Jim Tedesco said at the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday.
More than 343,000 rounds of golf were played across Bergen County’s public courses in 2024, the highest number in its history, making golf one of the parks department’s largest revenue generators. The clubhouse project is part of Bergen County’s broader Parks Master Plan — a multi-year strategy to upgrade recreational facilities, preserve open space and improve access to high-quality amenities for all county residents.
The groundbreaking comes as Teaneck announced $1.1 million in state Department of Environmental Protection grants to make improvements to two of its 22 local parks.
“The township has enjoyed a new great working relationship with the county since the start of the new year,” Mayor Mark Schwartz said Friday. “This is one such example right in our backyard that benefits our residents and we look forward to other projects to come.”
Construction is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
