Justin Rose was a prodigy who at just 17 made a name for himself in the golf society. Prior to playing in the 1998 Open Championship at Royal Burksdale as an amateur, he was basically a nobody. But this championship truly changed everything. What made this tournament truly special was the incredible moment on the 18th hole. His ball covered a significant distance and went straight for the flag, eventually landing in the hole, filled by the crowd erupting in joy. But the most wholesome moment was Rose’s own reaction as he raised both his hands like a champion and took off his hat while looking at the sky. Just look at that smile. And if you think this is emotional, wait until you watch the next one. Number nine, Jean Vandereld’s memorable collapse. The 1999 Open Championship at Carni was a tournament that was not known for the winner, Paul Lowry, but rather for Jean Vanval. Jean held a three-stroke lead going into the final hole, but when it was time for a double bogey to secure the title, his luck ran out totally. The golfer made a mistake by using a driver, causing the ball to move far to the right and land on the 17th hole. His lead started to get threatened, and it got even worse on his second shot, which bounced off a grandstand and into a deep rough. His third shot was no good at all, as it landed in the infamous Barry Burn. But this is when Jean officially became the joke as instead of taking a drop, he removed his shoes and socks and went into the water trying to play from there. But ultimately deciding against it and taking a drop instead. While Jean was fighting for his life, Lowry on the other hand made an incredible comeback and secured the victory. And while winning and losing is a part of golf, the final shot players shoot is remembered forever. Number eight, Arnold Palmer, the golf legend. Arnold Palmer is an all-time legend who made quite a name throughout his vast career, but his existence started to fade when at the 2015 Masters, he along with other legends Jack Nicholas and Gary Player hit the ceremonial T-shots. This was officially Palmer’s final time participating in this tradition due to his old age and health issues. Sadly, Arnold died the next year in 2016, which brings us to the 2017 Masters, where the golf world paid tribute to him. His seat was left empty and his green jacket sat on top. It felt like Palmer was still among them. It was an emotional moment that made everyone cry uncontrollably. He was an absolute legend that golf fans will never forget, and there are some first shots that one remembers forever. Number seven, Phil Mickelson’s first major win. We all remember Phil Mickelson as an amazing player, but every golfer’s career truly begins at one point in time. And for Phil, it happened when he won the 2004 Masters Tournament. It was an occasion that finally gave him his first major championship victory, putting an end to the era when he was known as the best player never to win a major. The 68th Masters held from April 8 to 11, 2004 at Augusta National Golf Club was the event in which Mickelson faced intense competition but came out on top. He made a dramatic finish and celebrated with his crew, wife, and beloved baby daughter. If you’re enjoying watching these emotional moments in golf, make sure you hit those like and subscribe buttons and watch till the end for the final one on the list. Now moving on to a moment that golf fans can never forget. Number six, Tiger Woods wins the 2006 Open Championship. Similar to Phil’s 2004 first major win, Tiger Woods victory at the 2006 Open Championship was also truly emotional and memorable. The tournament was held at Royal Liverpool Golf Club where Woods won his third open title by finishing two strokes ahead of Chris Demarco. But the part that actually made it a proud yet sad moment for the entire community was that only two months prior to Woods winning, his father, Earl Woods, passed away. He was the person who truly mattered to Woods. And not being able to celebrate his victory with him in that moment must have been very heartbreaking, but he knew that his father must be very proud of him in that moment. And we all know he surely is. And then we have Eric Venroyan’s most emotional moment. Number five, Eric Venroyan’s emotional comeback. How can we forget Eric Venroyan’s incredible 2023 Worldwide Technology Championship performance? Throughout the match, he showcased how much of a good golfer he really is, especially in the final round when he shot a 9 under 63 and made a 16 ft Eagle putt on the last hole to secure his second PGA Tour victory. As his ball landed in the cup, he held his right hand like a true champ, representing all of South Africa with his talent. When the interviewer asked Eric how he remained so calm when the stakes were so high, the golfer finally broke down trying to hold back tears. This showcases how much golfers have to control their emotions during the game and how they lose them when they finally achieve what they dreamed of. While Royan’s comeback was surely emotional, there’s another moment in golf that still makes fans cry. Number four, Hunter Mayan broke out in tears after losing. Hunter Maym lost his cool after he along with his US team lost the 2010 Ryder Cup. During the press conference, he overcame his emotions and fell into despair. But thankfully, Bill Mikkelson, who was just sitting next to him, comforted him and even answered questions for him. It was one of the most touching moments for the golf community as they saw how teammates held each other back until the end. This next moment just makes everything extra sad. Number three, Lexi Thompson’s tragic loss. The moment when Lexi Thompson lost the 2017 ANA Inspiration Tournament thanks to a fan who reported a rule violation made the entire golf community go crazy. Lexi was brought to tears, but still managed to finish the tournament. All thanks to her fans who supported her until the end. To this day, her fans agree that she was robbed of the victory. And this is enough for Lexi to know that there are people who support her on this matter. Moving on to a moment that was emotional yet full of joy. Number two, Stephen Curry’s incredible hole-in-one. A hole-in-one is a crazy achievement, and it’s even crazier when it’s made by someone who’s not even a professional golfer. I’m talking about Stephen Curry’s hole in one at Lake Tahoe during the American Century Championship. He made the shot 152 yards away and managed to sink the hole. The crowd erupted with cheer and Stephan and his caddies ran on the fairway to celebrate his performance. What an unbelievable shot by a basketball player. And finally, the one moment that’s etched in golf’s history. Number one, Sim Ryder. One ina- million shot. Here’s another ace made by Sam Ryder at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open. Ryder made the impossible shot 125 yds away, which landed in the cup. This marked it as the first hole in one at this iconic hole since Francesco Molinari in 2015. The crowd totally went crazy. They threw and sprayed beer everywhere, requiring at least 15 minutes to clean everything up. But the best part was how Ryder’s family was there to celebrate the victory with him. That’s the greatest reward for such a remarkable shot. Don’t forget to like and subscribe. And if you enjoyed these emotional moments in golf history, you’ll love this video, too. Click here.
