Justin Rose says while he’s proud of how he flipped the switch after a 75 Saturday, losing the playoff to Rory McIlroy punctuates each of his two career Masters playoff losses — though there’s nothing he can do about it. #GolfChannel #Masters #JustinRose

THE DAY BEFORE LOSING IN THE FIRST HOLE OF SUDDEN-DEATH. >> PROUD OF MYSELF. I THINK I PLAYED GREAT GOLF TODAY, FLIPPED THE SWITCH FROM YESTERDAY. YESTERDAY I WAS SO ANGRY COMING OFF THE GOLF COURSE BECAUSE I TURNED 69 IN 75 AND I DID NOT LET THE MOMENTUM SEEP INTO TODAY. I THINK FROM PROFESSIONALISM, VERY PROUD OF THAT SWITCH OVERNIGHT AND INTO THIS MORNING. AND THEN, HITTING THE RIGHT SHOTS AT THE RIGHT TIME TODAY I HAD A LOT OF QUALITY SHOTS UNDER PRESSURE AND I FELT I WAS GETTING STRONGER AND STRONGER AS THE ROUND WAS GOING ON AND I FELT SO GOOD WITH MY GAME AND EMOTIONS, SUPER PROUD OF THAT. YOU CANNOT PREPARE OR PRACTICE FOR THAT, THAT’S WHEN YOU LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF AND I’M STILL LEARNING. AT ROYAL TROON AND HERE AT THE MASTERS. WHEN IT GETS TO THE REAL BUSINESS END I FEEL LIKE I’M REALLY CALM AND READY WHICH AGAIN I AM PROUD OF THAT, BUT DISAPPOINTING TO LOSE IN A PLAYOFF THE SECOND TIME PUNCTUATES BOTH OF THEM AND MAKES YOU REALIZE HOW CLOSE YOU HAVE BEEN. >> HOW FOCUSED YOU WERE, BUT HOW MUCH DOES IT HURT? >> YES, I MEAN IT HURTS. YOU KNOW, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? I THINK I ALREADY KICKED ON MY CAREER FINISHING SECOND AND THEN PLAY SOME OF THE BEST GOLF OF MY CAREER, WORLD NUMBER ONE WHAT DO YOU CHOOSE THERE’S NO POINT BEING TOO DESPONDENT BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT ALL THE GOOD STUFF THAT GOT ME INTO THE SITUATION. YOU CANNOT SKIP THROUGH A CAREER WITH A LITTLE HEARTACHE. IF YOU’RE WILLING TO LIFT THE BIG CHAMPIONSHIPS YOU HAVE TO PUT YOURSELF IN LINE YOU WILL RISK FEELING THIS WAY TO GET

  1. I'm a Rory fan, but I have the greatest admiration for Justin Rose. His round today was championship caliber – ten birdies! He didn't let the bogeys derail his focus. Even after the bogey at 17, he made the clutch birdie on 18 to give himself a chance.

  2. I suspect that Justin would like to be recognised as a golfer whose success is at least partly based on talent rather than as he is currently seen, which is as a golfer whose success is based on being professional (i.e., a grafter).

  3. He shot lights out on Sunday. I don't know that I've watched a round like that, under that pressure, ever. Bummer that one of them had to come in second.

  4. I keep thinking about that playoff putt. This guy's one of the best putters of all time. Has played Augusta 100+ times, all the resources in the world, greens book + caddy. Same green same pin every single Sunday. How does he not know exactly what that putt does. You'd think he would know exactly how to align that last putt and he still mis-reads it. I dont get it.

  5. Great final round by Rosie but he needn't feel too bad with finishing 2nd…if McIlroy didn't have the weight of the world on his shoulders he likely doesn't double 13 or put his 125yd approach shot on 18 in the bunker leading to a bogey, and would have been 3-4 shots clear of 2nd. It's also historically much easier to shoot low on Sunday coming from well back of the lead, in Rose's case 7 strokes behind to start the day. Kudos to him for a stellar round but he knows he was just a little too far back after the 3rd round to have realistically expected to win.

  6. It's gotta be disappointing not to win, but I don't see it as some crushing loss. Bottom line, he shot an amazing round that would've lifted him into second if McIlroy had even just made bogey on 13. Of course, "if" is why we watch. I do hope Rose gets another major, he's a class act.
