The PGA Tour is triing the use of rangefinders for the first time at the RBC Heritage and Brian Harmon has given his thoughts on the devices. Former Open Champion Brian Harmon has voiced his approval of the pace of play at the RBC Heritage following the PGA Tour’s latest move to test out rangefinders in tournaments. This experimental period, triggered by Rory Mroyy’s triumph in the Masters, will go on for half a year with the goal to quicken up the game. Golfers are limited to using just the distance measuring function of the devices during this trial and face punishment if they break the rules potentially leading to being ejected from tournaments. And 2023 Open winner Harmon was quizzed about his thoughts on this rangefinder policy on Saturday. I think it was smart to start it this week. He said this is probably the fastest as far as place that we play all year. We’re in pairs all week. Hasn’t been super windy. course has been fantastic. When you put us in tsums, we’re going to play in under four hours. I think we had several rounds at Tory this year that were under four hours in Tusums. So, the more that we can do that, I think the better product that we have for sure, it moves along a lot better. I mentioned yesterday I got asked almost the same question yesterday. It’s hard for slow players to hide in tsums. You have to keep up or somebody’s right on you getting warned, getting timed. Our rules officials have done a good job of keeping everybody moving, but this place with it being so flat winds down, we’re going to play fast out here. Harmon is in the mix at the RBC Heritage tied for fifth with Tommy Fleetwood at 12 under, while Siw Kim leads the pack at 15 under. Hot on his heels are Andrew Novak and Justin Thomas just one stroke behind. Maverick McNeely sits in fourth place on the leaderboard at 13 under with Scotty Sheffller not far off at 11 under. Brian Campbell still in the hunt at 9 under, said rangefinders. It’s interesting. I feel like we’re running out there. I feel like we’re playing really fast. I know we played I’m not sure if it was yesterday or the day before. We played in like 3 hours and 50 minutes. They’re getting what they want. We’re playing really fast. I know the rangefinder definitely helped us on 16. We were on 10 fairway. So having a rangefinder in that situation definitely sped up play.
