It was a day to remember on the links as Kahuku’s Ava Cepeda made history at the HHSAA Girls Golf State Championship, rallying with a final-round 69 to win the individual title at Mauana Lanai’s North Course on the Big Island on Tuesday.
Cepeda finished at 3-under par for the tournament, three strokes ahead of first-round leader Alexa Takai of Punahou.
With the victory, the senior became the first female golfer from Kahuku to capture the state crown.
In the team competition, Punahou (+14) edged out Mililani in a dramatic third playoff hole to secure its second straight team title — the Buffanblu’s third in the past four years and 14th overall.
