Sights & sounds from Shore Conference Girls Golf Tournament
Marlboro’s Kashish Malik won the individual title at the Shore Conference Tournament, while Southern won the team title.
No ifs ands or puts, New Jerseyans love themselves a round of golf.
With more than 340 golf courses in the Garden State, more and more residents are curious about all things related to the game on the green.
According to a new study by high-tech golf apparel brand Galvin Green, New Jersey is the seventh state most interested in taking up golf.
The study observed which states had the highest number of monthly Google searches for phrases like ‘golf lessons’ or ‘golf instructors near me.’
Data found that New Jerseyans are eager to learn it all, with ‘golf lessons near me,’ averaging 3,417 monthly searches. The phrase ‘golf lessons’ alone reached 958 monthly searches on average. With 67.50 monthly searches per 100,000 people, it’s fair to say residents are fascinated by the fairway.
Massachusetts tops the list as the most interested state in golf, with approximately 89.47 searches per 100,000 people. Utah, Illinois, Michigan and New Hampshire make up the top five states after that, with Rhode Island coming in sixth place above New Jersey.
Perhaps due to its harsh climate and unique topography, Alaska was found to be the state least interested in golf.
Despite being the largest state in the U.S., Alaska has the fewest golf courses, which might explain why they average only 15.9 monthly searches per 100,000 people.
A Galvin Green spokesperson commented, “According to the National Golf Foundation, there are around 16,000 golf courses across the US, which is actually more than the total number of Starbucks stores. With so many courses across the states, there are plenty of opportunities to take up golfing as a new hobby.”
