this match you debuted in October, 97. >> Speaker 2: Yeah, 97. >> Speaker 1: And
then once I found out that you were alive, then I wouldn’t as much as you and
tried to get me to fight you, I just wouldn’t do it
until you pushed too far. >> Speaker 2: Yeah, tended to do
that throughout my career [LAUGH]. >> Speaker 1: [LAUGH] And so this will be, this is a great place to have your
first match together, WrestleMania. And I think I had been off now. >> Speaker 2: Yeah,
I forget why you went out. Was that when we set the casket on fire? >> Speaker 1: That’s right,
you set me on fire. At the, was it Survivor Series or
the Rumble? >> Speaker 2: It was in-

recurring theme here with Shawn. >> [LAUGH]. >> Speaker 1: I should have known by now

I always like redheaded Paul. I mean, obviously he was great with me. But he was just always really
just such a better heel manager. This came to him so natural. What are you feeling here, bud? >> Speaker 2: I was nervous,

the whole deal, everything else going on. And they bring in Pete Rose in, and you’ve gotta Tombstone him and
not kill him, that’s typical. >> Speaker 2: Pretty much, yeah. >> Speaker 2: I didn’t get the back of
my head wet either, that bothers me now. My hair’s dry in the back. What was I thinking? That was like,
completely unceremoniously, too. They just threw him on
the stretches [LAUGH]. >> Speaker 1: [LAUGH] Yeah,
we got Tony Guerrero. >> Speaker 2: Yeah. >> Speaker 1: They’re like, we got
more important stuff to get to here. This is a pretty nasty tombstone,
too, boom. >> Speaker 2: Yeah.
>> Speaker 1: I mean, you took great care of him,
I’m just saying. >> That looked good, boom. >> Speaker 2: Pete’s awesome,
he’s a great showman, actually. >> Speaker 2: Yeah.
>> He was great. >> Speaker 1: Yeah, he really was. >> Speaker 2: That went on,
how long did that go? I went for years. >> Speaker 2: Yeah, we had, I think
it was three straight WrestleManias. And then we did some other stuff as well,
yeah, it was like, recurring theme, three years. >> Speaker 1: You repeat roses, nemesis. >> Speaker 2: Now this is
when it gets real, though. No, I mean, seriously, because it’s like,
I mean, this is the Undertaker, okay? And I know you, and
this is still, it’s intimidating, when you’re in the ring looking at
this and the entire production and the music and the druids and
the flames and the torches. Yeah, I mean, it’s pretty dad gum
intimidating, it really is [LAUGH]. >> Speaker 1: My thoughts on
all that is like, man, I hope, cuz we’re using extras here. >> Speaker 2: Yes. >> Speaker 1: Man,
I hope none of these guys like me on fire. >> Speaker 2: It’s always a concern. >> Speaker 1: Yeah,
it really was always a concern. But this turned out,
this is one of the better entrances. >> Speaker 2: Yeah, it was, man. It was awesome. But seriously, imagine you’re in the ring,
looking out at this, and this is your first really big, huge match. I’m like, boy, [LAUGH] that’s classic. >> Speaker 1: And
this is different, like, Venice. This is at, it wasn’t a Garden,
it was what? >> Speaker 2: Boston Garden,
yeah, I’m sorry. >> Speaker 2: The new Garden, right? >> Speaker 1: Yeah,
forget what it was back then, the Avenue. >> Speaker 1: So the confines there
are a little tighter than a stadium show. >> Speaker 2: I don’t know about you,
I always like the arenas better than the stadiums, because the stadiums-
>> Sometimes you lose a lot of sound. >> Speaker 2: Yeah, and the arenas,
I mean, there’s still 20,000 people here, but it’s a lot more intimate. >> Speaker 1: Mm-hm. >> Speaker 2: And for
the performance side of things, anyway. Yeah, I mean, that’s scary,
dude [LAUGH], it is, yeah. >> [LAUGH], Yeah, Terry did a really
good job with that robe and the cape. And I do remember, like man,
I’m a little like Count Dracula. >> [LAUGH]. >> it turned out it was cool. It was what was needed for this moment. >> Speaker 2: Yeah, and again,
this is like, we touched, we kind of fought a little bit, but
this is the actual first match. >> Speaker 1: What have you got me into? >> Speaker 2: Yeah. >> Speaker 1: I think I’m
taking extra time here, I just kinda looked up at you like,
damn, he’s big. >> [LAUGH]. >> Speaker 1: How much do you weigh here,
330, 325? >> Speaker 2: 325,
Needed every advantage I could get. >> Speaker 1: It’s kinda
a cool shot with the smoke. I don’t know, it just stayed all over me. Defiant, look at that defiant
little brother right there. >> [LAUGH]. >> [LAUGH] Good luck,
Taker, you’re on your own. >> Speaker 2: You’re on your own. And it’s all the anticipation. >> Speaker 1: You’re like,
will you please hurt? >> Speaker 1: I might have been that, too. Can we please get this started? >> Speaker 2: [LAUGH] Jack Doan
in the land of the giants. >> Speaker 1: [LAUGH]
Could have got a smaller. >> Speaker 1: Yeah. >> Yeah, the money. There, nothing like a good stare down. Even before this match,
we know that we’ve got a story here. I mean, you can’t, I would be totally full of crap if I
knew it was gonna go for 20 or 25 years. But you’re in the middle of
something that has a lot of legs and there’s a lot of potential for
different ways for thing this thing to go. >> Speaker 2: We talked about this
was kind of a stylized a little bit after the Ali Foreman stuff. >> Speaker 1: Rope a dope. >> Speaker 2: One thing though, man,
I was still, I’ve been Kane for, however, six months or so. I was still trying to
find my way a little. >> Speaker 1: Still figuring out, yeah. >> Yeah, and I wish we’d had this
match a little later anyway. Yeah, well, that didn’t work. [LAUGH]. >> [LAUGH]
>> That’s right, you don’t sell either. >> Speaker 2: Yeah, [LAUGH] no, let me tell you something. You weren’t exactly a lightweight
yourself either now [LAUGH]. >> [LAUGH]
>> I was just heavy in my boots, I was like, crap, but,
>> Speaker 2: Now I was wearing the new boots too, so. >> Speaker 1: You brought out all
the new gear for WrestleMania, dude. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: I don’t know that I could do that. I don’t know if I could wear brand
new pair of boots at WrestleMania. I’d have to have them suckers broke in. That’d be all I would be thinking about. All these damn boots, these damn boots. What was funny was I’d actually ordered
a pair and they were 15 sizes too big, too big [LAUGH]. >> It was awful. >> Speaker 1: The toes were curling up. >> Speaker 1: Yeah, [INAUDIBLE]. >> Yeah, so I think we were able
to get another pair in time. But of course, Paul was just giving
me all sorts of hard time about them. Golly, You take those turnbuckles,
awesome. This is one of those deals where it
allowed me to do stuff like that because normally. >> Right.
>> I didn’t have anybody that was big enough to manhandle me and
throw me around, so. >> Speaker 2: Me too. >> Speaker 1: People say I was able to
enhance what you were doing cuz it made sense cuz you were so freaking big. >> Speaker 2: This jumping off the, this. >> Speaker 1: This is the old unabomb. >> Speaker 2: Yeah. >> Speaker 1: Drop, no. >> Speaker 2: Yeah. >> Speaker 1: Did you alter that or
do you just go with something like? >> Speaker 2: [LAUGH] I think even back
then I was becoming slightly less athletic because things are going [LAUGH]. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: Well, you’re big, I mean, you’re a lot bigger
now than you were when, I know you did that to me in Knoxville. >> Speaker 1: Yeah.
>> I went up there and worked. >> Speaker 2: Yeah. >> Speaker 1: I never help
anybody cuz I always move. I always gotta get out of wherever I’m at,
I’m always moving a Roy. Yokozuna used to get so mad at me. >> [LAUGH]
>> He would hit me, and I would leave the corner and go sell somewhere and
make him chase me around. >> Speaker 2: Again, again. You know what? That actually was a lot smoother
than I remembered it being. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: What? I don’t have any idea what I was
thinking when I tried to do that. >> Speaker 2: [LAUGH] I don’t know either,
I mean, it was, >> Speaker 1: Were we like cruiserweights or what? >> Speaker 2: Yeah.
>> Speaker 1: I don’t know what the hell that was. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 2: We were lucky. >> Speaker 1: I was like,
>> We’re lucky either of us survived [LAUGH]. >> No kidding, man,
I was like, what on earth? It’s like both of us are north
of 300pounds and I’m trying to, I actually thought I fell off,
but you’d be a strong boy. >> Speaker 2: Not. >> Speaker 1: Well, maybe not strong
enough to get the steps apart. >> [INAUDIBLE] [LAUGH]. >> But you could catch me in midair. >> Speaker 2: How’d
those stairs get there? >> Speaker 1: I don’t know.
>> [LAUGH] >> They helped him get up to the ring really easily, that was nice. You like a big, great white shark and
his blood in the water just. >> Speaker 1: Uh-oh. >> Talk about a great white shark. >> You talk about, look, you get his end. >> [LAUGH]
>> Paul had to get his in. He said, that’s for making me. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: That’s for making me pee my pants
in Seattle that time. >> [LAUGH]
>> Paul extracted some personal revenge here. >> Speaker 2: Folks have no idea [LAUGH]. >> The malice that was
in those kicks from him. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: Well, you got just about whooping my ass here,
I think so, yeah. >> Speaker 1: I’m gonna get tired of that. >> Speaker 2: Yeah, that changes [LAUGH]. What were you thinking, man? You had me. >> I know, well. >> Again. >> Never known for my brilliance in there,

to sit in the front row at MSG. >> Again, I’ve really never
been able to sell like this. >> It’s good, man. >> Speaker 2: Yeah, at this point,
I was just hoping to survive. >> Speaker 1: You’re kicking my ass. All the nerves and everything else, man. The cool thing about this, though,
is so many times with WrestleMania in those matches, they never got
to actually tell a good story. You just have to go through the match. >> Speaker 1: Right. >> Speaker 2: We’re able to actually
slow down and do some good stuff. >> Speaker 1: I think that
worked the way I wanted it to. So nice to be able to
get my leg up like that. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: [CROSSTALK] Whoa, forgot about,
I’ll never forget about that. >> Speaker 1: My gosh, I forgot, I missed, that was the first time
I think I’d ever missed. >> Yeah.
>> I mean, I missed, but I think that was the first
time you out scouted me. >> Speaker 2: Yeah,
you just get stuff thrown on you and the poor Spanish announcers
are scrambling forever [LAUGH]. >> Speaker 1: Poor Spanish
announcers picking up the pace now. All right, I got him hurt. >> Yeah.
>> Speaker 1: Here comes the Flying Cow. I don’t know if the general audience
knows that’s what you named that. >> Speaker 2: I didn’t name it that,
actually [LAUGH]. >> I thought that was yours. >> Speaker 2: No, Triple H called the
Flying Cow cuz it was like in Monty Python when they’re throwing the cow over
the castle walls of the catapult. That’s where that came from,
like thanks, dude [LAUGH]. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: It’s quite a sight while you’re down there looking at 330 pounds,
standing up there like, my goodness. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: Surely, surely he’s gonna run out
of gas at some point. >> Speaker 2: [LAUGH] Well,
I’d run through everybody like a knife through butter
up until this point. >> That wasn’t too bad. >> Speaker 1: Yeah. >> Speaker 2: Whoa. >> Speaker 1: Yikes. All right. >> Feeling pretty good about
myself after that, now. >> I’m not sure about that cover,
I don’t know what [LAUGH]. >> That was,
I think we got away from that. That was my cover, yeah. If I’d actually done it, maybe I’d have
been able to beat you here, darn it. >> Speaker 1: I mean, you just
tombstone me, and now I’m back, back. >> Speaker 2: You’re the Undertaker. >> Speaker 1: Jab [LAUGH]. >> Speaker 2: Literally hitting
me with rights and lefts. Ooh, down goes Kane. >> Speaker 1: Down goes Fraser. Building some momentum now,
you gave me a little crack in the door. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> Speaker 1: Damn you. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: Damn you the hell, Undertaker. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> Speaker 1: That’s it, baby. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> Speaker 1: Or so he thinks. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> Speaker 1: Ow. >> Ow.
>> Speaker 2: Ow. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> Speaker 1: That may be worse than the Tombstone I gave Koko B Ware,
my first match as Undertaker. That was awful. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> Speaker 1: And how bad did that hurt? >> Speaker 2: Didn’t,
had a lot of padding. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> Speaker 1: What the hell? You stealing my stuff, man? >> Speaker 2: Yeah, I did that a lot
throughout my career here, actually. >> I’ll try this again. This one’s not gonna be any better. Look, that was a little better. Yeah, that was a little better. I’m thinking, good Lord,
I should have got that. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: She’s like, I’m gonna try to help you out,

>> Speaker 1: You’re kind of a sore loser. >> Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that’s the first
time I tasted defeat, what do you expect? >> Speaker 1: [LAUGH]
He’s legit blowed up. >> Speaker 1: Yes. >> He’s legit sky high-blowed up. >> Speaker 2: That was a good one too. >> Speaker 1: You got me, brother. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: Come on. [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: It’s funny, that’s just the beginning. >> That’s the thing, it’s like, this will be the climax,
the big match and everything. >> Speaker 1: Yeah.
>> Speaker 2: And it’s amazing, we kept it going another 20 years almost. [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: Yeah, longer than that, really, yeah. >> Speaker 1: Yeah. >> Speaker 2: That was right after this,
the next was the Inferno Match, I think, correct? >> I wanna say, yeah. >> Something like that,
it was not long after that. >> Speaker 1: That’s good, man. You might have a future. >> Might have a future. [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: You might have a future in this business. >> Speaker 2: [LAUGH] Yeah, that’s-
>> Speaker 1: That whole politic thing don’t work out for you? >> Speaker 2: My God, yeah, no doubt. [LAUGH] But that was one of my
favorite matches, when people ask me. >> Speaker 2: Yeah. >> Speaker 2: That one, because of the
significance of the match and everything. And then the Inferno Match too. >> Speaker 2: I took it up a level. >> Speaker 2: Yeah,
it’s a hard question when people ask, who’s your favorite person to wrestle
against or what’s your favorite match? Because we’ve had so
many great performers and all that stuff, but that definitely was huge,
huge highlight for me. >> Speaker 1: You know what, we need to do
one of these when we were teaming together and just killing everybody. >> Speaker 1: Yeah. >> That was fun. >> Speaker 2: Yeah,
I like that a lot more. >> Speaker 1: Yeah, right? >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 2: No one else did. >> I get dropped on my head as many times. >> Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah,
that’s true, that’s true. >> [LAUGH]
>> Speaker 1: But yeah, we need to do one of those cuz we
pretty much annihilated everybody. But man, that set the tone for a 20-plus year run, man, that’s crazy. >> Speaker 2: It really is.
>> Speaker 1: That was fun to watch, man. >> Yeah, right.
