Phil Mickelson has stirred the pot with his late-night political musings just hours before teeing off at LIV Golf Korea. The golf legend, known for not shying away from expressing his views online, has been vocal about American politics lately. His recent social media posts carry on that trend, though their timing is surprising to say the least.

In the late hours at 1.30am and again at 6am local time in South Korea, Mickelson took to X (formerly known as Twitter). The LIV Golf event he’s scheduled to play in started at 11am the same morning at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club. Sparking his latest round of commentary was a critique levied by Democrats against how the Trump administration handled the deportation of illegal immigrants.

Mickelson shared a clip featuring CNN political pundit Scott Jennings taking aim at the Democrats’ criticism of Donald Trump’s methods.

Jennings argued: “Democrats allowed 20 million illegal immigrants to walk into the country with NO process. Now, they want President Trump to give these people who broke the law YEARS of ‘due process’ before he can send them back home. Americans are SICK of this.”

Mickelson didn’t hold back, responding: “Exactly. Anyone who disagrees should open their homes to them especially the judges who are overstepping their jurisdiction. Yah, I didn’t think so.”

The seasoned golfer, Mickelson, remains steadfast in his controversial perspective, having posted another video defending his viewpoint.

Even after a less than stellar performance at the recent Masters where he didn’t make the cut, Mickelson finds himself 14th in LIV Golf’s individual rankings, with his team, HyFLyers, positioned eighth.

Firmly rooted in the ongoing conflict within the golf realm, the experienced golfer boldly supports the Saudi-backed LIV Golf as the tension with the PGA Tour continues over a potential merger.

A trailblazer in jumping ship from the PGA Tour, Mickelson stands by his comments regarding the direction of the leagues, pointedly stating “LIV Golf (is) trending upwards” against the “PGA Tour (is) trending downwards.”

Mickelson has faced his fair share of backlash but refuses to waver: “Maybe I shouldn’t have said stuff like that, I don’t know. If I’m just looking at LIV Golf and where we are today to where we were six, seven months ago and people are saying this is dead in the water, and we’re past that. Here we are today, a force in the game that’s not going away.”

Despite this strong advocacy, his break with the PGA Tour comes with consequences— notably in the loss of Official Golf World Ranking points leading to his plummeting ranking and casting doubts on his future participation in major tournaments.
