On Tuesday, the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) High School golf team hosted the Colt Classic Golf Tournament at the NMMI Golf Course.
The golf tournament drew eight schools, including Carlsbad, Artesia and Texico, and featured both a boys and a girls competition. The local schools of NMMI, Roswell, Dexter and Goddard were all in attendance.
The host team, NMMI, had only a boys team, and they finished in fifth place with 346 strokes. They had one athlete finish in the top five, with Mason Hicks coming in second with 73 strokes. Their next two finishers were Alex Sanchez in 20th with 85 and Chase Dyer in 26th with 88.
The Goddard boys team came in second place in team standings with 311 strokes, one behind the leader, Artesia, who ended with 310. Goddard had three of its athletes finish in the top 10, with Yandel Parra finishing second with 73 strokes, and both Joaquin Sanchez and Brody Purcell tying for seventh with 79.
The Goddard girls team came in first place in the team standings with 359 total strokes. They had three athletes finish in the top five, which included the athlete who finished in first in the event: Mackenzie Jones came in first with 81 strokes, Naomi Smith in second with 83 and Alexandra Ragsdale in fifth with 88.
The Roswell boys team came in fourth place with 334 strokes. Their top three finishers were Josiah Garcia in 11th place with 80 strokes, Rylan Sarracino in 16th place with 83 and Frankie Anaya in 20th place with 85.
The Roswell girls team came in fourth place with 385 total strokes. They had one of their athletes finish in the top 10, with Sarah Sanchez coming in eighth place with 91 strokes. Roswell’s remaining top three finishers were JayLynn Benitez in 14th with 97 and Alexxis Burrola in 15th with 98.
The Dexter boys team finished in sixth place with 368 strokes. Their top performer, Rigo Regalado, finished in the top 10 in seventh with 79 strokes. Other finishers for Dexter were Matthias Salas in 29th with 90 and CJ Granados in 29th with 90.
The Dexter girls came in seventh place with 467 strokes. Their top finisher, Danyela Munoz, finished in the top 10: 10th with 93 strokes. Other finishers for Dexter were Alyse Nava in 33rd with 118 and Maya Gonzalez in 37th with 127.
