In the opening round of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson 2025, Scottie Scheffler shot a 29 going out on his way to carding a 10-under 61, good enough for a two-stroke lead over the field heading into Friday.

All friendships are left in the locker room and rivalries return after the Zurich Classic last week, as the PGA TOUR heads back to Texas for THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. The field, led by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, will be competing at a newly renovated TPC Craig Ranch. Fellow Texan Jordan Speith is back in Dallas and reigning champion Taylor Pendrith is returning to defend his title, looking to become the first golfer since K.H. Lee to go back-to-back. There is also a large representation from South Korea with stars Tom Kim, Sungjae Im and Ben An leading the way. The field will also be looking to qualify for the upcoming Signature Event next week, the Truist Championship.

put you in a good position for your second. Scotty looks like he’s lost this one out to the right. That’s going to be okay though. Just a little further back, but still safely in the fairway. Be a nice place to putt from. And this is on an aggressive line. Taking it on. Scotty Shefflla. Scotty trying to get this round started. Already missed a couple of good looks from 5 ft. Makes that one happen. He’s one under. Shuffler carving it up the right side. Turning on a nice line too, George. Good looking shot is Scotty Sheffler going deep today about to get for this one to go in. But then you got a par five that’s reachable. You got the short par4 six coming up. Cha-ching Sheffller. Birdiey’s on three and four. Two under. Get him over the hump, but he’s really close. It’s a bit too far away. Spotter thinks it’s fine. Scotty watching on. Spotter’s correct. And just a little bit of a pull trying to fade, but going to miss the green to the left. Now he’s got a he’s got his lob wedge out. He’s going to just throw this up in the air. let it land with some check. Pretty straightforward shot and that’s well played there from Scotty. Made it look so big part of the reason he made the Rder Cup team Sheffller. You hear those footsteps? That’s a chance to keep the momentum going here for Scotty. And 320 to that bunker in front. And as our colleague Mark Emman would say, that is as straight as raw spaghetti. Nice. Bring it in a little bit lower. How classy is that from Sheffller? Quite this close for Scotty Sheffler just cleaning up for four straight. The birdie rampage continues for Shuffler. Three, four, five, and six. Four straight to four under par. Almost looked a little bit like he was going to do that there, but he’s given this one the full treatment up the left center. And this is a beauty. And that took off when it landed. Yeah, bringing it in high, trying to fall right, but just left of the flag. Yeah, nice one. Good job, Scotty. The PGA Tour is back in the Lone Star State and Dallas is own Scotty Sheffler is off to a fast start outside of his hometown. Five birdies through eight holes, five under par. Really driven the ball beautifully today. Giving this one a little lean. doesn’t want to get over there too far to the right and hop in that bunker on him. That’s perfect. World’s number one player on the move. And then moments ago, his second at the par five ninth. And this was a beauty. He was staring it down for good reason. He loved it. Why wouldn’t he? Less than 5 ft away for Eagle. And a front nine 29 for the best player on the planet. And now a moment ago for that Eagle and that 29. Yes. Scotty Sheffler looking to go crazy deep on this Thursday here in the first round. This one right. Did that fly like it maybe had some mud on there? You know, that’s the only thing I can think of it that it was on the bottom of the ball and I couldn’t see it, Tom. It sure did to me, though. Green to work with. Got a blade wide open trying to flop it on it with some spin. Needs to check. Oh, he did. Oh my word. That almost goes in. So little wrist set on that way back just allows him to deliver the ball the same way every single time. He can hit any shot he wants around the greens. And that is going to keep the momentum going. It’s going to be a par. As I said, this is not the easiest stretch of the golf course. So, get through here without any issues. And then, of course, into the bunkers on the other side yet right at those bunkers in the distance trying to fade it off of them. Tom should be perfect. It’s cuz there’s just no there’s no run. So the ball’s just going to stop right there. Scotty can get back on the birdie train here. He’s left it below the hole. That’s going to be a good look. Get to eight under par. Tie the lead. Yes. You knew it. You knew it. Sheffler tied for the lead. First birdie, the back nine having gone out in 29. Just a perfect read there outside the right edge. And with that mallet head putter just it’s stuffed in that back corner that’s kind of tough to access. You got to hit a really good shot narrow back there. This is nine iron. Oh, there’s a good T- shot. How good is it going to be? It’s going to be a tap in birdie for Sheffler and he will get to nine under par. That’s why they are there watching today. That’s chance to potentially get it to double digits under par for the day. He can 30 this and the 18. This one really close to going in. That would be a fun night, Tom. Certainly would. This to take the lead at nine underpar. What a day for Scotty Sheffller. And he’s going to have so much support here. Just so much energy with this group to begin with. Good shot. Let’s go Jordan. Scotty trying to play it pretty big slice. Good line. Oh, made Johnson jump out of his chair just a little. Had to be on Had to be on his mind a little bit. Did he forget the speed? just breaking off on that low side. Really hard to get yourself to commit that ball way out to the left, but still really nice putt, good speed, and a heck of a round here. I’m going to give What a day for Scotty Sheffer. The world’s number one player has the lead all to himself by two after an opening round 61. Thanks for watching the PJ Tour on YouTube. His touch with his irons and wedges is just on another level from everyone on tour. It’s like he’s playing a video game
I obviously can't speak for others, and while I appreciate the round 1 highlights of one person that shot well, I'd so much rather watch the whole field highlights MORE. Saying I'd rather that be uploaded first.
Anyway, thanks for all the highlights and have a good evening!
3:02 Sarcasm or did he not see it? That definitely, did not "take off" when it landed lol
So golf is easy Scottie?!!
has he got the p udi's in over the srixons yet?
Scheffler is in an absolute roll
Nobody said that the Bunny Ranch is Oakmont. Surely there's better courses down there?
straight as raw spaghetti-funny
It’s now trendy for broadcasters to describe shots as “classy.” Ridiculous.
Baby face Scottie is back 👶
He's back
Great job Scottie!!! As usual……the announcers are idiots.
When he’s on he’s the closest to Tiger
2024 Scottie is back! 🔥
Cannot even begin to explain how much I love Scotty Scheffler
Am I the only one who doesn’t enjoy watching pros dismantle easy courses?
Show me tournaments where they finish at like -6 after 4 rounds
Scheffler has a fine tune button that is dialed in much more often than the rest of the field. That simply equals more wins, which is what he's doing now, and I think we'll quite possibly be seeing for a few more years, if not more. Fortunately, he's extremely likable too.
Like yes his wedge play is inherently great, but his ability to read a green from 15yds or so off the green is so impressive I mean at 4:38 we see his second almost chip in. The checky chips that almost sink are just so masterful. Brings that kind of energy where it feels almost like he doesn’t even want to break out the putter.
had me moaning with these shots
Scottie has a lot to teach golfers. I wish he had more presence.
It only took nine holes for Scottie to catch the leaders today.
The most important thing everyone should think about now is how to invest in different sources of income that are not dependent on the government. Especially with the current economic crisis around the world 🌎. This is still a good time to invest in different stocks like gold, silver and digital currencies. all thanks to Sophia ’E Haney for coaching.
This guy is phenomenal ..
Oh now I get it.. it’s hard to be bad at putting when ever putt is 4-8 ft away.
I’ve been playing this game all wrong smh
first person to ever challenge tiger! this guys unstoppable! his run will beat tiger
scotty 2 major already! tigers a joke at this point!@
Oamont look out😅
the Shef is in the kitchen
He has the shuffle back in his swing. Very interesting for the coming majors.
He'll never make it with that footwork
Go Scottie – let's win that first title in 2025 💪
watch scottie goes -40, that'll be sick haha
Not even capable of being in the tiger chat… sorry. Great perfect golfer. But when it goes wrong he can't win. Tiger did. Simple
Scottie’s on a tiger type of streak, makes it look easy. He was probably 15 total feet from shooting a 58
Scottie is good, but the course is easy with wide flat fairways and flat greens. And 95% of the players in that tournament is not good enough for being over paid players. Golf is killing it self with players not dedicated or putting in the effort and still makes massive of money. Its a rich people playground..
His swing consistency will never make sense to me, I have no clue how it works, but it just does. Great round
Most likely he will stall out during the weekend and finish top 5 .
……as straight as dried spaghetti. Raw spaghetti is also soft, pasta is a dough.
What happens when Sheffler goes against a Korn Ferry field and course?
2 SHOTS extremely close to going in and still shoots 61! Those other rounds of 63 and 64 are outstanding, so this will be an exciting tournament on a well groomed course!
Every time he hits the ball it amazes me that he can make great contact with the way his feet move.
#freewesley
My goal in life is to be able to hit a pitch shot like Scotty
Amazingggg
