All friendships are left in the locker room and rivalries return after the Zurich Classic last week, as the PGA TOUR heads back to Texas for THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. The field, led by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, will be competing at a newly renovated TPC Craig Ranch. Fellow Texan Jordan Speith is back in Dallas and reigning champion Taylor Pendrith is returning to defend his title, looking to become the first golfer since K.H. Lee to go back-to-back. There is also a large representation from South Korea with stars Tom Kim, Sungjae Im and Ben An leading the way. The field will also be looking to qualify for the upcoming Signature Event next week, the Truist Championship.

Excuse me. 495 for the dex hole. So, this is a tough opening on this back nine to the 11th. Carl Phillips 166. Huge drive. Optimal angle here. Takes dead aim. Fine. Look at these guys. It’s a big T- shot today. McKenzie Hughes holding his finish from a $164. This was right at it. Beauty from Hugh. How bad in there. Three for three with the putter. win. Good to see Champ make two putts in a row. This is a very dangerous man around here with his length if he starts. See if he can dial it into that little rise. Perfect. Great opportunity up at this back section. Not a lot that roll it better than McKenzie Hughes. Roll your rock or wedge it real tighter. Hit it real well. See if Champ can take advantage of that bomb off the tea. Well, think about this guy’s history. He’s hit it epic and then missed everything. Where a lot of these guys live and James Hun lives in Scottsdale, Arizona is play around a lot of other really good players. Kenzie Hughes has a beautiful swing here. Oh, look out. Okay. And makes makes a couple putts. He’s on top of the leaderboard then. Yes. Yes, he does. And you said he was third in strokes game ter green for the year. Do you know what he is in this round? Forest. Third. But that’s going to improve it right there. But John Daly was an underrated from around the greens. Caros, is he underrated? No, he is not. Kos gets it to minus six. It’s when you’re spinning those hips through that left leg has to turn out. Rasmus Hoyard getting a chant going there. We all like happy tappies. Joerger, his second at six. He pitched it into that UPS slope with a little bit too much loft on the trajectory. If you’re going to firm it, you got to keep it inside the hole. Well done. Really good looking card for Joerger. Just 20 putts on the day, 87 ft. as we watch Hughes. Nice and controlled pitch yards left at the par four Carl Vils. He’s driven 321 yds. Power and precision. Cannot drive it any wedge shot in here for Jerger. He’ll have to take an aggressive line. I mean, nicely done. He’ll try and get to seven under par. Oh, he’s got a great look. Beautifully played from 129. They come from everywhere. Trey Mullenax. Okay, two ahead on the fourth. Andrew Putnham to move to two under. There we go. Hands off. It was wild. Was it Was it successful? Yeah. Oh, well then it was worth it. This one is really good. If you’re young and fit and ripped, why not take your shirt off? It’s an excuse to take your shirt off. Playing golf on the PGA Tour. He opens the birdie trick. Yeah, exactly. Sandler Phillips. Oh, bing bong. And he walks in that birdie to get to under par. A nice place to putt from man. This is on an aggressive line. Taking it on Scotty Shefflla. Scott trying to get this round started. Already missed a couple of good looks from five feet. Makes that one happen. He’s one under. Sheffller carving it up the right side. Turning on a nice line too, George. Good looking shot. Is Scotty Sheffler going deep today to get for this one to go in. But then you got a par five that’s reachable. You got the short par4 six coming up. Cha-ching. Sheffller. Birdie’s on three and four. Two under. Sheffler early. Now he’s got a he’s got his lob wedge out. He’s going to just throw this up in the air. Let it land with some check. Pretty straightforward shot. And that’s well played there from Scotty. Made it look so big part of the reason he made the RDER Cup team. Sheffller. You hear those footsteps? That’s bring it in a little bit lower. How classy is that from Shuffler? Not quite this close for Scotty Shuffler. Just cleaning up for four straight. The birdie rampage continues for Shuffler. three bringing it in high trying to fall right but just left of the flag. Yeah, nice shot. Yeah, this is where the reads become difficult. These nulls off the bunkers. Not for Sheffler though. Regg to perfection. Number one player on the move. But then moments ago, his second at the par five ninth. And this was a beauty. He was staring it down for good reason. He loved it. Why wouldn’t he? Less than 5 ft away for Eagle. And a front nine 29 for the best player on the planet. And now a moment ago for that Eagle and that 29. Yeah, Scotty Sheffler looking to go crazy deep on this Thursday here in the first round. Scotty can get back on the birdie train here and he’s left it below the hole. That’s going to be a good look. Get to eight under par. Tie the lead. Yes, you knew it. You knew it. Sheffller tied for the lead. First birdie. The back nine having gone out in 29. Chandler Phillips uphill at 18 for birdie. Give this a good wrap. 27 ft away and he guards a 65. Whatever good breaks you get, just lap them up. This is to finish with another birdie. Putnham, that’s 64. He sort of got himself. Just it’s stuffed in that back corner. That’s kind of tough to access. You got to hit a really good shot narrow back there. This is nine iron. Oh, there’s a good T- shot. How good is it going to be? It’s going to be a tap in birdie for Sheffller and he will get to nine underpar. That’s why they are there watching today. That chance to potentially get it to double digits underp for the day. He can bury this and the 18. This one really close to going in. That would be a fun night, Tom. Certainly would. This to take the lead at nine underpar. What a day for Scotty Sheffller. And he’s going to have so much support here. Just so much energy with this group to begin with. Trying to play a pretty big slice. Good line. Oh, made Johnson jump out of his chair just a little. Had to be on Had to be on his mind a little bit. What a day for Scotty Shepherd. The world’s number one player. Has the lead all to himself by two after an opening round 61.
