Speaking last year, Woods included himself and Nicklaus, both icons in the sport, in his lineup, referencing the famous monument to U.S. Presidents in South Dakota. However, instead of picking more recent stars, he chose Sam Snead and Bobby Jones to complete his list. When asked to name his top four golfers, Woods responded: “Well, probably Sam Snead, Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus… [And] me.” Snead, whose prime came in the 1940s and 50s, shares the record of 82 PGA Tour wins, which includes seven Major victories. Known for his smooth and laid-back style, often seen wearing a straw hat, Snead’s swing remains one of the most iconic in the history of golf, with many players attempting to replicate it over the years. Jones, who won seven Majors, was renowned for defeating professional players despite competing as an amateur. He retired at just 28, but his legacy goes beyond his playing career. Jones co-founded the Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters Tournament. It is believed that the idea for the green jacket worn by the Masters champion came from Jones, inspired by a tournament in England where competitors wore red jackets. He chose green after being captivated by the color of the trees and grass at Augusta. Woods is currently recovering from an Achilles injury, which prevented him from competing in the Masters this year. He hasn’t won a Major since 2019, but he recently congratulated Rory McIlroy for his victory at Augusta.
