Bruno was a gentleman and a great judge of character . He saw through Vince’s veneer of respectability . Vince is a narcissist with a glass ego .
In due deference to Bruno … the steroid age was birthed by his ascension to the top . He was the mega star naturally blessed strongman. Everyone scrambled to play catch up to him and steroids were how it was done . Vince just took advantage while feigning innocence .
There was also Vinnie using David Sammartino to entice Bruno out of retirement and back into both the commentator's position, and back into the ring. And this would hurt the relationship between Bruno and David that lasted for years (and possibly up to Bruno's death).
Bruno also didnt like the fact that when WWF were bringing in celebrities, they would get paid more than the wrestlers. It added to his resentment.
BRUNO WOULD NOT GET OVER TODAY
Think about the situation, Bruno Sammmartino once judged as one of the strongest men in the world, Pennsylvania’s powerlifting champion, who set the world bench press record at 565 sitting in the locker room getting dressed and in walks The Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger. What do you think he said, WTF. He spent his life working on his body starting with the Young Men’s Jewish Association in Pittsburgh. Here comes 3 men who got their muscles from a glass vial of a substance retrieved at time of autopsy from a pea sized gland sitting beneath the human brain of someone they didn’t even know. Damn !
There needs to be a real hall of fame.
Bruno sold out for some last minute money and glory.
I don't blame him, but he was hypocritical at the end.
Growing up Italian american, I heard many stories about Bruno growing up from my old man. He always compared him to newer guys, saying he was better because they needed drugs, and Bruno did it on rigatoni
The real Bruno of professional wrestling is Downtown Bruno .
How about asking someone who was there. Shane was not in the WWF during Bruno's announcing time
He is completely wrong about the long standing fight between Bruno and vince a lot of it had to do with Bruno son the steroids was the final draw with Bruno
I knew Bruno was sincere about his anti-drugs in wrestling stance and desire to make wrestling serious when he took the job with Herb Abram's UWF.
Jessie lost his right hand man, Vince got rid of his perfect foil on commentary.
Haha. Bruno was a too smart kind of wrestler.
Why would anyone think Shane’s take has much validity? There’s plenty interviews where Bruno himself lays out exactly what he thought of McMahon and the WWF. Shane has absolutely nothing to add. He didn’t even say ubiquitous or mention his pre-med stuff.
Fun fact. Bruno loved to golf. My grandfather was friends with him when they were both alive, and they would golf together along with Arnold Palmer at a golf course in Latrobe Pennsylvania. 👍✌️😁
In a Sports Illustrated interview, McMahon admitted that if his father knew what he had in mind, he would never have sold him his stock.
Very real and articulate comments by Shane. True historian of the business.
Bruno was old school
Vince the Devil can fool anybody
