If you struggle with chip shots and pitch shots around the green it’s because you have a chipping and pitching technique that is either too complicated or your trying to use the same technique for all shots.
In this video Danny Maude explains the difference between chipping and pitching and shows you exactly what technique to use and when.
Here’s what you are going to learn
1. The two things that control your strike with your pitch shots
2. How to control your distance when pitching or chipping on to the green
3. Use a chipping technique for chipping but a pitching technique for pitching
So if you are looking at improving your confidence with chip shots and pitch shots around the green watch the latest video from Danny Maude right here 👇 https://youtu.be/Z4jFeHrBwGc

ABOUT DANNY
———————–
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On YouTube and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Danny, you are a real trooper to head out into the elements to provide a lesson.
It was so hot out there that you could see the steam rising off of you!
One of the best out there!! Thank you Danny
Thank you
Awesome lesson. Love it.
Looking pretty sharp as well. Wonder if you can share the brand of golf slacks and hoody you are wearing? Thanks!
Love the dot theory Danny with the spiral. Thanks for explaining this way. Can't wait to practice it.
Let's freaking go 🏌️
Probably the finest swing (for short distances) I’ve ever heard, Danny. I took my first lessons in 1960 when I was 19 years old. Here’s $10 of appreciation. Go enjoy a pint.
Cheers Danny really good instruction. Thanks as always and have a great weekend
50 odd years golfing and these days length is my enemy!! Recently my 30 to 80 yards in has been a lottery thins, fats, pulls and shanks. So this week I realised I'm swinging off the ball then along comes today's lesson from you and now I can see what's wrong cheers mate😢
Thank you Danny, short game is were you can say shots. You always make it sound so simple. Looks like you picked a cold day there.
Appreciate you teachin in the frost Danny!
do you always use a SW for pitches 30-80 yards?
Thanks.
Maybe make a video where you play off matts in the winter, so the fairways can recover.
These wedge and pitch shots in from 100m are becoming my favourite. I’m only two years into learning this game as a 50yo bloke, and I’m finally finding consistency off the tee… but watching a beautifully struck and flighted wedge hit the green (& stick) from 90m is a sight to behold. Gotta remember not to be too hard on ourselves: I think the stat is less than 50% of PGA players hit the green from 100m+.
The rhythm thing is key. I’ve had a friend tell me my practice strokes were perfect, but then I rush the actual shot. Just need the repetition to gain the confidence. Great lesson!
Great video as always Danny, you make the technique clear but even knowing this I still struggle as my head takes over as I have the yips. I’ve struggled for years and just can’t get out of it.
Possible eureka moment. I believe I turn, not pivot. Thank you Danny.
Great lesson Danny, cool hoodie too 😂
Followed you for a few years now Danny, best YouTube teaching out there. Nice to see some stuff out on the course too.
Great instruction, as always, Danny. A follow on video to this could include uphill, downhill, and side hill lies. This is where I struggle the most. I’m sure I’m not alone. Thanks.
Fantastic Danny! More practice homework for me to work on…
Thank you another great lesson
As a 65 year old golfer who has played at a reasonably high level for 55 years, your video lessons are a fantastic refresher and often point out things I haven't re-inforced in my practice for a while. Thanks for your commitment to excellence and for offering insights in a way everyone can take something away.
Showing the pulley thought was huge for me. Ty
This is a game changer for me
Como verlos en español ?
Soy de argentina 🇦🇷 y parecen muy didácticos
Absolutely marvellous Danny! Went onto the practice found with this, and got immediate success. The beauty of it is, that 90%+ of the shots were on line, one hit the pin, and I used other wedges for the same distance with lower and more penetrating flights, from hip height instead of ribs and above – more versatility, but with great consistency and confidence.
Another plus was that when my concentration lapsed, I could feel the pitch go flicky, and for immediate feedback, that it was going to be a “not so good”’un, without actually seeing the ball in flight. Cheers again Danny!
Such an important part of the game Danny, especially this time of the year when you find yourself coming up short on the longer holes. Great advice as always. I like to have the thought of keeping my chest turning as it stops me from getting too handsy.
Psychic again Danny am suddenly struggling with my pitches so here is something I must try. FYI just played in Dallas and my companions are both DM subscribers. One handicap 21 had just watched your wrist cock video and played like a single figure handicap!
The main thing for me is a consistent setup, staying fluid & loose feeling, just a little left in the feet, a little open with the face. Mostly feel from there, taking the CH back on what feels like a vertical path, and a smooth roll of the arms from there. I was curious to watch this video, but at 30 seconds in it occurred to me, if it ain't broke don't fix it. My driver on the other hand …..
Very good and timely Danny! This should help with my inconsistent play from 30-95 yards out. In combination with testing swing arc depth for hitting height/distances. Then when proficient, start hunting pins. Typically, I use a 59 and/or 54 wedge depending on the lye, for that type of shot. 👍
So you are getting a long/wide backswing with the level of the club for the distance that you want the ball to go.
As someone who has had a fantastic wedge game for years, I developed a case of the shanks in this distance range. Would this be a case of moving too far off the ball like you mentioned with a full swing? It got so bad in 2024 to where I would do everything I could to be outside of 140 so I could hit an iron into a green vs hitting partial or full wedge shots.
My handicap went from a 1 to a 5 last year because of the shanks. It is crushing my game and living rent free in my head. I can hardly watch pros or teaching lesson videos on wedges because all I can think of is shanking the ball…
Big fan Danny!
What do you make of Liam Robinsons coaching methods & how he’s managing to get a tune out of Brandon Robinson Thompson
More level hips in the backswing
Danny, any chance of explaining more how the arms work. I feel I’m the person who moves off the ball and strikes the ground early. You mention pushing down and pulling up but my arms/ club still seem to sway away from the ball. What’s the feeling for the swing to spiral up like you mention. Any help would be appreciated.
Would love to see you play 18 holes and talk through your thought processes… maybe some lovely picturesque different types of courses with some tips on how a links course plays differently etc…
Danny – a solid lesson on not only getting those near GIR wedge shots, but also on how to develop soft hands. This drill very close to what I work on at least a couple times a week. Having ample room in the backyard affords me shots up to 55yds or so. Also the grass varies – anywhere from moderate rough to tight lies, ball above (play from here), ball below (from there) all the while making that swing smooth and effortless….great video as always.
Brilliant Danny! Thank you
❤ your videos! So helpful.
Thanks again for a brilliant lesson. I'm 72 years old and retired. Luckily, playing more golf and slowly improving my skills due to your lessons.
I like the simplicity of your lessons, and this one was no different. Set up and rhythm seem key here. I tend to "hit" at the ball to try and ensure contact, and not follow through. Going outside now…
👍
Thanks
Thanks
I’ve watched your videos and thank you. Do a really great job. It has helped my game immensely. I do have a question when you’re 30 yards out approximately but the course that you’re on the fairways are like hard pan and I can’t make that swing like you mentioned to cut butter. It seems like when I sold the club it bounces because the ground is so hard. What a person be better to use like a nine iron. I’m in Arizona and don’t play courses like waste management. But playing good respectable courses, but it is so drythat these short chip shots from 30 yards in are very hard. Any suggestion. Thanks, Steve.
Danny, I love all your videos. In this I am noticing a right hand tucked in same as for any other clubs. That would make more solid contact. Let me know if this is not the case, I am looking forward to change my pitching with this technique.
Just want to leave this here thanks for the help i broke 90 this past weekend the wedges have been holding me back for a while and damn you made the entire thing so simple and easy to follow really really appreciate all the teaching videos you make…i wish you the best
