BOARDMAN, Ohio–The Westminster College men’s golf program earned a third-place finish at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships Saturday at the Mill Creek Golf Course.
The final two rounds of the 72-hole championship event were played on Mill Creek’s South Course. The PAC’s 36-hole fall event was hosted by the Avalon Golf & Country Club in Warren, Ohio. The men played two rounds at Avalon Lakes in Warren.
Allegheny College won its second-straight team title, posting a four-round score of 1,185 after its 301 on Saturday. Washington & Jefferson College was second with a team score of 1,218 following its four-round 301. Westminster concluded its four-round championship run with a 1,219 after firing a 304 on Saturday.
Allegheny’s Carter Hassenplug earned PAC Player of the Year honors for the third-straight year after his four-round score of 284. He shot 72’s on Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore Tyler Hager (Lehighton, Pa., Palmerton) followed up his two-under 70 on Friday with a 74 on Saturday to finish his four rounds with a 301, good for third place.
Senior Ellian Ascencio (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) finished in a three-way tie for ninth place with a 306. He shot a 78 Saturday. Senior Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, Ohio, South Range) joined three other players tied for 12th with a 309 after firing a fourth round 77 while senior Joe Trudeau (Ann Arbor, Mich., Skyline) shot an 81 Saturday and finished 17th with a four-round score of 312. Graduate student Kai Haseyama (Encinitas, Calif., San Dieguito Academy), rounding out Westminster’s scoring five, tied for 19th with a 314. He shot a 75 Saturday.
Hager earned First Team All-PAC after being recognized as Honorable Mention All-PAC a year ago. Ascencio was named Second Team All-PA for the third-straight year while Batdorff earned Honorable Mention All-PAC.
