AimPoint has divided opinion on the PGA Tour, but Paige Spiranac isn’t keen on the new technology and has called for it to be banned despite Collin Morikawa’s firm stance

Former professional golfer Paige Spiranac has joined Lucas Glover in criticizing players using AimPoint, taking issue with how it’s impacting the greens and the overall pace of the game.

A number of golf stars on the PGA Tour have been using the reading aid, including Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, and Collin Morikawa, and it’s been debated during the opening months of the 2025 season. The green-reading technique and technology helps golfers improve their putting, but has slowed down the pace of play, according to Spiranac.

The technology also relies on players using their feet and fingers to sense the slope of the green, which has also led to criticism. AimPoint is still allowed on the PGA Tour despite calls for it to be banned, but Spiranac wants players to be taught how to use it correctly.

On Sunday, Spiranac called for AimPoint to be banned, before going into further detail about her frustrations. “In all seriousness, there’s nothing wrong with AimPoint,” Spiranac wrote on X. “The problem is when it’s not taught correctly which will slow down pace.

“Also a player who is slow will always be slow with or without it. My issue is when they are so conditioned to use AimPoint that it’s a habit they have to use even on tap ins. Trampling around the golf hole is not it.”

Spiranac’s take comes after Glover, the 2009 U.S. Open champion, called for it to be banned completely and said that players using the technology were ‘rude’ in an honest admission. Speaking on the ‘The Lucas Glover Show’ on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, he said: “Statistically, [AimPoint] hasn’t helped anybody make more putts since its inception on the PGA Tour.

“Statistics have borne that out. It’s also kind of rude to be up near the hole, stomping around figuring out where the break is in your feet. It needs to be banned. It takes forever.”

Morikawa hit back at Glover following his comments, firing a friendly dig at the golfing veteran for switching to a long putter late in his career. “I have nothing against Lucas [Glover], but if we’re banning AimPoint, I think we should ban long putters as well.”

AimPoint was then defended by Morikawa as he looked at the debate from both sides. “AimPoint does take longer if you’re not doing it properly, right, if you’re not doing it when other players are reading their putts,” he said. “I think there’s a respect issue.

“I think some players might get a little bit too close to the hole and I get that. When you get too close to the hole when someone else is putting, yeah, like I don’t want my line and my putt to go over someone else’s foot and their marks.

“From my perspective, AimPoint has 1,000 percent helped me. I listen to the announcers sometimes during play and they say why would you AimPoint this, this and that. It gets a basis of how I read a putt and how I start my lines. It’s just like reading something from behind the hole or behind the ball, that’s how I’m getting my general read for that.”
