We often hear the advice to play for the middle of the green rather than being aggressive and firing at the pin. But is this actual good advice and will it help you reduce your golf scores?
In this video I use my Shot Scope V5 GPS watch to test out this theory and see if playing safe and having a less aggressive course management strategy helps my scoring.

This was a wonderful video! It was interesting to see how you can hit less than perfect shots and still have a putter in your hand when going for the middle distances. Thank you Hannah!
I try to look at the distance to the back of the green, as it allows for mis-hits not reaching.
The back of the green is the number I play to on full shots. I rarely, if ever hit it over the back so more often than not, I'm somewhere around the middle unless I completely screw up the strike. I'll only use the middle number for shots inside 100m.
I guess it’s like keep it simple , enjoy your vlogs
My issue is launch monitor numbers. The ones in my head are from fully warm and grooved shots during practice. I can't overcome my stupid ego and just play more club.
I was always told to hit for the center of the green…I would start out on the front 9 with that thought in mind, but then I’ll have a Brain Fart and I’ll for some reason go pin hunting which is a bad thing for me because that’s when I start having big scores on several holes…if I can somehow play the back 9 like I played the front 9…I love this game though…great video though…keep up the great content…
Love your videos Hannah. My fiancée and I both get a lot from them. One thing I’d ask, if it’s even possible from your end, is to make Closed Caption available. Love your accent, can’t understand a word. Well, not most of them, anyway. 😂 Keep up the great work, and good luck with the channel!
You’re a great player enjoyed that
👍👍
Sharing this with every student that I teach. So much good information and the way a lot of people should play.
Just broke 100 for the first time, middle of the green (until the last hole tried to hit the par 5 green in 2, landed in the green side sand and three shots later trickle onto the green).
Great video – but also good demonstration of not just middle of the green but also adjusting for wind and slope (and usually more than you think)
Nice one Hannah, always love the content and how you deliver it. Keep them coming 🙂
Great content. Increase GIR by going middle is a smart move. Pars are good! This is an approach I saw while assisting with golf teams here in the early 90s. Also, made the players go play with just 5 clubs. Those teams won state twice (91,92) and runner up once (93). That head coach has several of each. Thanks again. PS, Ottumwa, Iowa if you are curious where these teams were. PSS, looking good. Love the pink!
Center of the green is safe but no one talks about those shots in the bar afterward.😆
Any hole that ends with a tap-in par is sure better than my average!
For the average golfer playing for the back on the green might even be better
Subconsciously, we factor the pin's placement in all our shots. It's not necessarily a bad idea, just don't be obsessed with flag hunting on par 3s and approach shots. Happy to watch Hannah play.
Interesting because I never aim for the pin anymore. I used to but now I rarely do. Fun fact … I apparently aim for the next hole instead … or the bushes… or the bunkers…. but I actually do tend to get rather lucky (I refuse to say I improved) since i stopped trying for the pin.
Hannah, you hit flushed every shot you hit. It was a great video to watch.
Love the video🎉🎉
I took some of the ideas to the course and had best round in 23 years of playing this game 🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Good work, great advice, thank you.
