This was crazy to get some solid conformation of what is correct with driver
After upgrading my driver last year from an early 2000s model to a 2024 model, I had a horrible time toping the ball with my driver last year, to the point I just would accept it was going to happen. I figured, I'll just do better on 2nd shot and around the green, which didn't happen that often. When I went to the range over the last month, I started with the hope this would change and be a better year. After a couple of driving range sessions, I was back to the same old issue, topping the ball.
Of course, I learned to play the ball off the side of my heel of my left foot. I also hit my wedges, 9 and 8 iron great. This last weekend, I got so frustrated that I told myself I'm moving the ball more towards the middle, and I didn't care about the ball needing to be played more forward. When I did that, I started hitting a lot better ball, and I was actually hitting the center of the face, not the bottom, according to the indicator tape.
Finding your video couldn't have come at a better time! I did not know why moving the ball more towards the center worked, but now I know why.😁😁😁
How high would you tee the golf ball using this set up?
that is a whippy shaft for 280m mate
I pull my driver like 90% of the time. I can’t wait to give this a go at my next range session
What was the ball hight like . I try to place the ball with my left ear
Awesome video , I really enjoy this content . Where you are learning , just as much as we are .
I’ve got a question, with your swing speed Alex at 112mph hitting down does make sense to me . But with a slower speed say 90-100mph . Do you get to point of diminishing returns , where you cannot hit down so much ? You’d almost want to hit level to very slightly up? To get the most distance .
Thanks
Now swing with 92mph clubhead speed and see if it applies to us amateurs aswell!
I really feel this, realised it myself a year or so ago – ball being too far forward in my stance was making my slice worse, as the club is moving left by the time it gets there and hitting across the ball. I now play it about two inches inside left heel.
I’ve struggled with a horrendous driver slice since starting to play golf a couple of years ago. I started playing with my ball position over the last few weeks. Noticed I was slicing less as I moved it closer to the middle. I assumed it was something to do with me having a weird swing, saw this video and now feel like I’m just a genius 🤣😂 definitely recommend anyone who struggles with their slice to give this a go.
This video changes everything for me! This is exactly what I need, great video!
Wonderful tip! Love it. Really cool to see how these little tweaks can result in huge improvement in ball path, speed and distance!
This is the problem with golf coaching. This coach says no need to hit up, plenty say you need to hit up. Tour pros have the speed so don't need to hit up. Rory hits up, is he wrong?
The path makes sense, almost as if the more slice you have the further back you need. Also no mention of what this would do to someone who hooks the driver.
Definitely, once i figured out. Its the same swing my game came together
This has been a eureka moment for me! Absolutely brilliant yet so simple
I don't belieeeeve it!!
gee i needed this lol what a great tweak in the swing process/ball placement
Yeah the ball position looks inside front heel and not the middle.
No tracer and no measurements from the launch monitor?
you're assuming that golfer has the requisite driver that has the new technology. I'm hitting an older Taylor made driver.
this is garbage lol
Things like this work for me until it no longer ‘feels’ novel.
Played 18 holes today and tried it, 15x on the fairway and great contact. I am a believer
Did you change tee height at all with moving the ball and low point back ?
I play a 9 degree loft … if I move the ball back do I need to move the loft to 10 or higher ? And tee height recs for this set up
Going to try this tomorrow .🙏
ESPECIALLY because the "modern" technique is to straighten the lead leg going through impact. Only serves to exacerbate this issue. The greats (with "inferior" equipment) had their lead knees bent at impact. Spine angles are critical (bend and lean) but when you swing that driver and the lead knee remains flexed at impact, flight path and contact are solid and straight. For every error there is a fix (instructors) and every fix leads to a new problem (student). At 10:20, look at his lead knee as he demonstrates impact.
Thats Ernest Jones (Swing the club head) and Manuel de La Torre (Understanding Golf swing) principl. It makes pretty much sense specially for amateur golfers to replicate swings
I've been doing this lately, my slice disappeared!
This is groundbreaking! Hundreds of years on and we're just being taught this?
those lessons with this coach are just insanely good for you and eye opening for us Alex !!! thks angain for that
Disagree with the ball back “Theory”. Ok for high handicaps maybe but not for me. Arms swing independent on the downswing and don’t follow the shoulders turn. Ball further forward allows you time to get your shoulders out of the way and hit down the line for at least 6 inch. Ball further back delofts too much for me at impact and causes a fade. Whatever works for you I suppose🤔
What about tee height?
Voted #1 by who?? If you hit down on a driver, it'll put more spin on the ball and will, more than likely lose distance. You only hit it back in the stance when you want to get a lower ball flight. Makes no sense….
Incredible insight here. Great content AE
Would slightly lower tee height match this less forward ball position?
Anders is such a good coach, I'm jealous of anyone who can visit him for a lesson. Both your lessons with him are 2 of the best lessons in all of youtube.
I went to the range the day after watching this. Put my 3iron down as a guide and boy with no effort I was smoking them. Tried to hit it hard and "when' I hit it in the sweet spot, I was in awe…25+ years of playing on and off and this has got to be the most simplest ever….
Game changing. Very interesting to bring onto the range to fine-tune your own low point.👌
I'm definitely trying this! Could be my answer to the occasional towering slice! 🙂
I’m not into this one as much only because this is where I came from to begin with
Hitting up is a cheat code used by long-drive champs who miss the fairway 8/10
Light blub…. 😮😮😮😮
Absolutely amazing 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wow. as long as I have watched your channel, I never thought about: My trainer needing a Trainer! Awesome.
Very interesting! Question: tee height and shot shape?
