John Daly telling a story about when he first met a young Tiger Woods and hit one of the best shots he’s ever seen #golfer #tigerwoods #golf

  1. He's got an amazing inside take away for someone who sets up so square.

And he doesn't hit high bombs as one would think when watching impact from behind….

He hits a piercing semi high trajectory that bores through the air with less spin than what the trajectory calculations would or should suggest…like Tiger.

So what you have as a result is not a ball that climbs normally with a spin rate that is hard to avoid because of typical physics etc club face angle etc….

Like tiger but Daly is more "one dimensional" as a given swing talent…. absolutely MASHES the golf ball velocity figure while matching closer to the face angle in a final upswing path at impact but AMAZINGLY in that slot longer than what normal timing should allow and thus….he rarely miss hits in the length department and especially for what is a straight ball flight normally for such a high draw swing path should suggest until that last 6" of path before impact that squares up and stays square through the ball.

Yes it is beyond freak talent…. it's insane.

It would take a phenomenally engineered swing machine to duplicate that along the same exact line of swing where the machine itself would be structurally and severely stressed mechanically. There is obviously something elastic going on in johns mechanics that at the same time is not detrimental or destructive to his overall structure…

UNLIKE Tiger where a well regarded state level swing teacher in Pennsylvania said to me,

"You want to see a good swing?"

So he shows me a slow motion swing that tiger executed in the first playoff par 3 hole at the Mercedes Championship against I forgot who but in the mid to late 90s where he stiffed it within a foot easily if not 6" and his competitor followed that standing ovation shot INTO THE DRINK ….game over if ever could be called…

Somewhere in tiger's downswing leading into the impact zone and through it well beyond almost finishing halfway in the swing completion and golf ball long gone, he says,

"Tiger is going to have severe back problems when he gets older"

….not that he was or is a spinal medical expert or prophet….

But what we both saw was a lateral elasticity of his spine at the mid point BOW AND CURVE FORWARD while his skull and lower spine stayed fixed as if his center column whipped forward as if wanting to detach from the base of his skull…

I said goddamn, "why do you say if I wanted to see a good swing then???"

    And he says,

"I said I wanted to show you a good swing and result of what it takes….NOT a swing that is good for you or possible for most people"

    …and I said…."oh…k"

  2. The fact that John offered to look after Tiger is kinda hilarious. We may need child Tiger to look out for you John! Imagine John Daly just absolutely smashed smoking a cigarette drunk driving barefoot on a golf cart and 13 year old tiger holding on for dear life. Haha

  3. Always a class act, miss you on the tour John. There are some really talented guys on the tour and I think they could learn some things from and you from them.

  4. Say what you will abt Daly but there’s no denying that he’s a man of his word. Never spoke an ill word abt Tiger.

  5. John has more natural talent than anyone who ever lived. He wasn't committed to the game. It was a waste of an abundance of God given talent.

  6. Greatest shot Tiger ever saw was with a broken golf ball John Daly hit…. And Trump’s cognitive tests were the best ever…. COGNITIVE DISSONANCE.

  7. The way that Daly seems to be re-embraced these days is awesome. For so long “golf” seemed to snub its nose at him, and he just kept going out and playing. Love the guy.
