SARASOTA, Fla. – Charlotte Men’s Golf will begin the postseason portion of the schedule on Monday (Apr. 21) at the American Athletic Conference Championship hosted at the Ritz-Carlton Members Club. The three-day tournament is scheduled for 18 holes each day, with the yardage set at 7,292 and a par-72. Wednesday’s final round will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The American Men’s Golf Championship will make its debut at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Sarasota, Florida. Designed by Tom Fazio, the golf course is located on 315 acres of tropical landscape, featuring abundant elevation changes and lakes throughout. The last three holes of this Sarasota golf course are some of the hardest consecutive holes in Florida. Nicknamed The Lion’s Den, this trifecta is comparable to The Snake Pit at Copperhead and The Bear Trap at PGA National.
COACH’S CORNER
“The postseason is always a fun time of year,” said Head Coach Ryan Cabbage. “I think every team gets more excited at the start of the postseason, with it being the last but most important stage of the season. As a coach, you always want to work to get your guys into a good position going into an event. You want their game, skill set, and mental mindset all to be at their best. I feel good about where these guys are in both areas. We must control what we can control, not worry about the outside noise, and be the best version of ourselves.”
REGULAR SEASON RECAP
Charlotte enters the postseason with a 71-37-1 record and is the second best AAC team in the national rankings at 44th. Coach Cabbage’s squad claimed victory at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate led by a great individual performance from Justin Matthews who finished tied for third. The week before, Matthews lost in an individual playoff at the Gators Invitational to take home second place. Matthews and teammate Seb Cave rank as two of the top five golfers in the conference. At the Mason Rudolph Championship on April 5th, Cave scored 64 in the final round to tie a program record for an individual round.
