I'm a professional musician, and would-be golfer. THIS video by Professor Maude made me realize the connection between the two; both endeavors can be diminished by overthinking. Dang, it's the same between golf and music or creating graphic art or… a whole lot of other things, I now realize. You've got to stop thinking so much in order to step outside yourself and, as I sometimes successfully manage to do, listen to myself play music from "out in the audience" without worrying about any technique per se. The results are almost always better. (I got the same wonderful advice from a friend of mine in high-school, about asking girls out on a date… "Scott, you're OVERTHINKING the problem. Just DO it!".) Thanks Danny, for these great golf tips. At 77 years of age, I need all the help I can get!

Danny, I just was fitted for a set of new clubs. The pro talked about what you talked about today along with getting myself posted on my left side. During the fitting, I just hit the ball perfect the entire time. Yesterday, I took my clubs out for the first time, and proceeded to shoot a 91. I am a 10 handicap, and was beyond deflated after the round. However, after watching your video, it came right back to me. I was not freeing up my swing yesterday I was too mechanical. I worried too much about where I wanted the ball to go versus actually just hitting it. I was hitting behind the ball and thinning shots the entire day. Now, I wish I was going out today to play again. I need to stop worrying about scoring and just trust myself and hit the golf ball. Thanks for making the game so simple. Have a great Easter weekend.
Another great video. I have been completely losing the plot by becoming paralysed with thoughts and positions, and not making progress. This has significantly impacted my enjoyment of the game, resulting in immense frustration. The fun had gone. Following this advice has made such a change in one session at the range this morning. I look forward to improving this feeling of the head and taking it to the course. I am confident that I will be enjoying the game and not just the banter with mates.

Well you’ve done it again. My sister struggle with “instructional voices” during set up and you could watch the tension build in shoulders. I would try to get her to stop thinking and when successful she would pound the ball. I just could not reach her all the time because I couldn’t explain how to relax. After this video, now she has this connection with the club, she is consistently long and accurate. Thanks again! You’re the best instructor!

How do you fix a push on your driver
I’m sure it was your influence Danny as I had this relationship with the club head in my last round. As a 22 handicap I found myself 1 over after 5 holes and my playing partners said they had never seen me play so well. Now it came undone on a particularly hard par 3 but I had that feeling of knowing what to do and fought back to have a great round. So this is great reminder of the feels I need to have on the course. Thanks.

This is brilliant Danny. Of late, I finally have gotten to the point of really feeling the club head in my swing rather than trying to control it. I finished a round yesterday with this swing and had a lot of fun finding the fairways and greens without fret. Now, I’ll take your additional advice as to how to create more speed so that I may increase my distance with all clubs. Thanks and really enjoyed this video.
Hey Danny, golf is a complete “ head game “. We want to improve our game so badly we see how easy it is for the pros and we try to replicate them. We aren’t pros and we overthink our form, how we are holding our club, and how we are swinging at the ball. This screws us up! To much thinking! Love your video, relax, feel the weight of the club and just follow through. It’s tough!

The club head is the bane of my existence! I cannot control it. Seems like every swing is different. Not by a lot, but by just enough, One hit off the toe, the next off the heal the next low on the face the next high. Not by a lot, but by just enough to cause trouble. Hate it.
Your videos are great. The pendulum swings i started a few weeks ago gave me great results. as well as swinging the driver outward on the follow thru. Now my drivers go right down the middle. Now i can my hit my shots farther because im wayyyyyy more confident in my swing. PLUS im not exhausted after 9 holes lol my fatigue ALONE has been improved TREMENDOUSLY .
In The Inner Game of Golf, Timothy Gallwey have very similar (and effective) advice. He suggests saying “back” when the clubhead is at the top of the swing, “hit” when it hits the ball and “stop” when the head is at the end of the swing. I was surprised how unaware I was of the position of the head – my focus was on my hands and my hips/weight shift… in fact probably everything apart from the clubhead. However this only worked for a few weeks as I soon found I just said “back, hit, stop” without connecting them to the position of club head! I prefer your explanation and look forward to trying it. Danny … another "brilliant" teaching session here. Guilty … I'm guilty … When I'm hitting at a net/screen, I can just relax and swing the club. I don't really care where the ball ends up as long as the swing is good. However, on the course, I try to "guide" the ball to the landing area for that shot. Bummer … I'm working crossways to the head of the club and trying to manipulate the swing instead of feeling the club. I'm already thinking about more confident shots when I will next head to the course on Monday.
