If you carry your driver 300 yards plus, i think the mini sits nicely in the gap you have created between driver and 3 wood
Rick when the Cobra Deuce comes out you must please do a comparison of all the Mini Drivers now on the market.
Heya Rick,
I love the R7 clubs, I'm found a set of irons (4 to pw) at a rubbish tip for $20, these are the irons I still use today (4 years later).
Official member of the Mini Driver fan club. Gaming last years Burner and love it. Kudos to Taylormade the r7 looks awesome. I don’t need it but I want if 😍
Your shots on
2 degrees went all to the right because by going down in loft you also open the face. To hit it 300 straightyou just need the 11,5 degrees modelVery cool club. I just dont see any use for it, for me.
Putting the heavy weights nearer the face also moves tham toward the toe and heel increasing forgiveness as well as lowering spin and functional loft.
You'll need a fairway finder far more often in a round than You'll need a 3 wood to reach a par 5. It makes more sense to have a mini driver than a 3 wood in the bag.
I used to have a King Cobra 13 degree 3 wood that was amazing. I could not miss a fairway off the tee with it but found it too hard to hit off the fairway. I guess this is a replacement for a club like that.
Buddy with the nonchalant Masters hat flex
Just ordered an 11.5 degree one as I am really struggling with my driver but when I use my friends Taylormade mini burner I hit it great and normally in the fairway. Can't wait to see if it will help me lower my scores
This will be in Guys bag in future videos
this is the sort of stuff that keeps me interested in golf. i love the new gear. i have such a short attention span that i lose interest so quickly. i really want to try a mini driver and i love the retro styled throwback stuff
How to setup the mini driver:
1. Juice your driver – 8 degree with forward forward weighting and use it on open holes or long holes
2. Mini driver off tee on tighter par 4’s
3. 18 degree 5 wood off the deck
4. Strong 4 iron
I do think though it’s more a club for high speed players but if you get someone who just can’t hit up on it the mini driver would probably work better then a normal driver.
Looks like a race car. Love the look
I took out the front weight of my old R7 it gave me better forgiveness just like a Ping G 400 SFT
We need to see a break 75 using a mini driver instead of a driver.
This club 100% will be my second option off the tee for tight/short par 4s. I used to hit 3 wood ok but i found, maybe due to lack of speed or whatever esp into wind i cant get my 3 wood out there, basically i had about 4 clubs which went the same so i will prob drop 5iron and crank my hybrid up as I find i use this when I'm at. a 5iron distance anyway most of the time. I hit driver ok, but this is the second option for when i need to be accurate, my home course has about 4 holes you cant miss on. Love mini drivers, my first was the SLDR, didnt fall into the trap for the copper ones (had the original) but I cannot ignore this for looks and the 4 ports. Plus i have Rory winnings burning a hole. The beauty of all this is, if the club fails someone will buy it from me, for me, when they sell out !! Look at the prices of the old ones, so stop whinging. Different strokes for different folks.
Overpriced garbage.
Now that is a beautiful club. For the week that's in it, they should put an actual Easter Egg in if you buy the club this week.
You can pick up the R7 Quad here (if you're interested!) https://tidd.ly/4lEk0qa
It's a good enough replacement as 3 wood tee option for the really long hitters as well.
Rick, you lose so many shots off the tee with driver. Would you ever consider putting one of these in your bag instead of your blow-up club?
I still use the R7. Can't find another driver that feels like it. the shaft to weight ratio is perfect.
It’s not about having a lot of money. It’s about knowing how to manage, invest, and grow what you have!!!
You’d really need to do a proper gapping session with your woods to see where you could or couldn’t justify this…for example if you’re carrying this within 10-15 yards of your driver with much tighter dispersion…why not just put this one in the bag? Could be a nice option to have as a “first alternate” for the starting 14 too…if you’re playing a tight tree lined course with a lot of contour to the fairways…bench the driver and sub this one in.
I played an R7 Limited for years. It was a great driver.
It’s for you, Rick. If you keep the weight in the back, lose 10-15 yards, but hit every fairway, it’s for you buddy.
Hi Rick, what’s the difference between this and a 3 wood which you can hit off the ground as well as a tee peg
Honestly just take your 7 Iron out that day because if your good simply hit a cut 6 or swing easier.
Normal golfers don't worry about club count. I'll take two bags if I feel like it. I want all the clubs.
Rick get over it. It’s a 3w replacement. It should perform like a 3w, but easier to hit as a fairway finder. You hit it great, stop trying to fight it.
Rick looks like it's the ideal club for you with your tendency to hook your drives
It’s great because Taylor made paid me to make this video
It’s near exact to the stealth 2 3wood just a tad bigger. Same twist face. Almost exact same setup
I'm a golf professional at a club off +2.6. I put a BRNR mini in and took a wedge out. I have driver, mini, 4 wood, 2 iron to give myself options and then go PW, 52, 58. I can finnesse all of my wedge shots reasonably and have found that the gaps are way more reasonable than before i switched. The luxury of options off the tee is really nice and i'm not suffering on the back end of the bag so that's my philosophy. Great vid, will likely pick one of those r7 minis up. They just look so class
Fairway woods go far enough you don’t even need a 3 wood these days. New triple diamond 5 wood goes further than my old 3 wood.
I hit my rocket 3 as far as my driver. The big 460 heads are to much confidence and leave you swinging lazy
Tour players who carry driver over 300 and use a mini driver have found .3 shots in a recent study
Love it. They should release the standard driver version. i'd be all over it.
Not impressed with this, what taylormade ran out of ideas. Ridiculous to be honest and nearly £400 so many gullible people out there.
Cool head cover. Not so cool when the fake leather peels off with 12 months. Same with their bags, junk Chinese quality
and you hit the 11.5 head and it would go straight in the bag.
Still have my R7 quad
This was my favorite driver ever.
I hit my ‘04 Quad up until 4 months ago when I upgraded to a Stealth Plus. It’s in my backup bag and not going anywhere. Except maybe back to the course when I’m feeling a little nostalgic.
Mini drivers are worthless. Why would you use a smaller head with a shorter shaft when you can buy a full size head with higher loft and then just cut the shaft shorter. Now you have a full size head that is more forgiving than a mini driver 🤦♂️
