Struggling with your chipping? Learn the simple 4-shot chipping system that will transform your short game—no matter your lie.

In this golf lesson video, I walk you through a step-by-step chipping technique that I personally use and teach to my students. It’s the exact same short game system I learned from Graeme Walker, coach to Tommy Fleetwood—one of the best chippers in the world.

Whether you’re facing a tight lie, thick rough, or need to pull off a soft landing, this system gives you the tools to strike the ball cleanly, control trajectory, and stop the ball near the pin with confidence.

Here’s what you’ll learn:
00:00 – Why most golfers struggle with chipping
01:16 – Shot 1: Putt with Loft (clean strike, basic chipping technique)
05:13 – Shot 2: Hinge & Hold (add backspin and control)
06:42 – Shot 3: The Fish’s Tail (pop it up softly from tricky lies)
09:13 – Shot 4: The Parachute Shot (high, soft-landing lob)

Perfect for golfers of all levels, these simple golf tips form a chip shot system that builds your short game fundamentals step by step—so you always know what to do, even under pressure.

ABOUT DANNY
———————–
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!

I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.

On YouTube and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.

Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble

I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

  1. Thanks Danny. Million things to remember to become a decent golfer. Nobody said it is easy 😂.

  2. A couple of questions. Do you recommend the little forward press I notice in your takeaway? Also, do you weight the forward leg some? I appreciate the video. Thanks.

  3. I think one thing you didn't touch on for the parachute shot is your open club face. In comparison to your other shots.

  4. My toughest chip is when the ball finds a thin piece of grass (or dirt) to rest on with a large clump of grass right behind, particularly with shorter chips. This is really common in Spring when things are just starting to grow. Inevitably with such a shot I end up chunking it (fatting it) and the ball only advances a foot or less? 😕

  5. Fantastic lesson Danny! Thank you. Chipping costs me so many strokes per round.
Question. If we are on a slope and chipping up onto the green, should we keep our spine perpendicular to the slope angle while using your techniques?

  6. I stand on the first tee and play a decent ( for a76 year old riddled with arthritis 😢) I then usually need a hybrid or my trusty 5 wood and iveriably don't hit the dance floor. Now this carefree golfer starts too tremble because I need to chip/ pitch to the flag and have no idea where that ball is going!!! Literally not a clue I shank, even hit the ball of the hozzle sharp right. It's a bloody nightmare 😢

  7. I love all 4 of these shots and share your putt with loft with anyone that will listen. I play with some guys that can make their chip stop after 1 or two bounces, with short roll out. I have tried to mimic their technique but can't crack the code. How do we add back spin to these drills?

  8. Good stuff, I like the multi-step system. And I think the thumb straight down the top of the club might be my missing like. Looking forward to using it on the course.

  9. Danny, the link for the downloadable practice guide results in a guide called: 'Before Hitting Any Club, Do This for 5 Seconds' and not 4 shot chipping system. Can you reply when the link is fixed and we can retry? Thanks.

  10. That feeling of lead shoulder down and everything working together literally transformed my chipping yesterday. I felt like i was going to hit every chip perfectly. Thanks for the video Danny

  11. I'm normally a fairly good chip striker thanks to your videos and do a practice swing prior. The only thing noticed and also with the other irons at the real impact swing not as good. I guess that's mind set with the mechanics of 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🤔

  12. Thanks Danny for sharing these shots with us. This is the poorest part of my game because I have hit so many bad ones I tense up. I am committing myself and a good portion of my practice time to getting comfortable with these shots and improving my scores.

  13. Thanks Danny
It looked like on the parachute you did not necessarily hit ball then turf.
    Am i mistaken?

    Thanks

  14. Don’t know how you do it but your videos always seem to focus on what I am working on. I have been watching golf videos for a long time and have gone from a 28 handicap to a 9. Your videos and approach are so good at keeping it simple. I now watch you exclusively and feel like I could get 3-4 strokes better over the next year or so.

The mental part is my biggest challenge. Staying focused and positive. Maybe that would be a great thing for you to tackle one week?

Thank you so much for being there for all of us.

  15. Your short game vidoes transformed my short game last year and it's carried over to this year. Everything you've explained in this video I now use depending on the lie and it's money! Thank you Danny!

  16. Hi Danny, you give great advice to improve golf, I’m 70 years olf and suffer with mobility issues and chronic back pain. What can you suggest when using thee shorter irons the harder to maintain contact with the ball when addressing the ball. Long irons and woods are easier to use? Colin Stidwell

  17. Danny – Are you using the same loft of club for all 4 shots and is changing the loft part of how you’re dealing with distance control?
