  1. If he touched the ground, causing it to depress or shift and that caused the ball to move then he deserved the penalty. Sometimes you have to realize the ball’s spot is too unstable to get close to without fully committing to hitting the ball away.
If his actions in no way affected the ball then he shouldn’t have been penalized. Now, I cannot say if a shadow causing a thermal difference or causing the grass to move through some mechanic for finding sunlight is a real thing, so I can’t argue that his shadow has no effect.

  2. Outside of "rules", if I was playing a friendly against my buddies and the ball moved as I addressed it, there would be no doubt they would demand a 1 stroke penalty or I would forever be known as a Trumper.

  3. If the rule is not enforced, everyone could „accidentally“ move their ball in a bad lie. E.g if it comes to rest in a divot

  4. Oh I'll be more than happy to tell you what I think! Effing BS!! MWL did absolutely nothing wrong! How in the heyell? Totally unfair. Rules are rules.

  5. Min being put on the clock and getting the penalty post round would be tough. Hopefully he can overcome and have some stellar future augusta rounds

  6. wh would you havw rules officials on the course if you can never rely on their decisions ???

  7. All they need to do is change the rule to where if you ground the club and the ball moves you simply place it back just like it was. Problem solved. It very rarely happens but that would easily solve the issue.

  8. Need this rule otherwise balls will "move" on their own all the time. Need to take care when addressing

  9. Rules are there including this one for a very good reason. But if you amateurs want to ignore the rule or make up your own go ahead if it makes you feel better about your self. Without this rule balls will "move" all the time on their own

  10. Never ground your club. Case closed. (Which makes me wonder, when did golfers begin grounding their clubs?)

However, this rule should be addressed whenever there is one of those huge meetings with PGA, USGA, and R&A to discuss rule changes. This rule should not be addressed in the middle of a round of golf.
