Sometimes you bomb your drive down the middle of the fairway on a par-5, but find yourself in a tight lie with well over 200 yards to go to the green.
The secret to hitting a fairway wood off of the closely-mown lie is slightly shutting the face at address. This helps the club to get a little steeper in the backswing and coming into the ball, which allows your hands to lead into impact.
