So your nearest drop point doesn't have to be in the bunker because the face of the bunker is considered the GA?
As the bunker face is sloping, is it not the case that the reference point is still in the GA as directly below the back of the ball is still bunker face? If so the incorrect reference point has been used to determine the nearest point of complete relief which, in turn, is likely to lead to the ball being played from the wrong place (general penalty).
Also, although it is not easy to tell from the camera angle, it looks like the ball was dropped outside the relief area;-a 1 shot penalty as ball was still played from inside the relief area.
Overall, assuming stroke play event, 2 penalty shots only as there was no intervening event between the two infractions?
Any thoughts anyone?
I’m baffled. Why is it ‘impossible to drop… because ball would fall back in bunker’. Surely just drop in the bunker?
Turnberry existed before Trump and I really wish it continued to be known as turnberry..
Even though the ball wasn't ever going to come to rest on the steep face, the keen eyed will notice that Fergus missed a step. He should have marked a point behind the ball and tried to drop it, then to place it before going to the nearest usable reference point.
CHEAT – that ball is NOT 'embedded'.
That is a very important rule a lot of people who don't read up on the rules of golf.
