As more states legalize sports gambling, scandals are increasingly emerging in various leagues. This problem has a deep history, from the infamous 1919 World Series to point-shaving schemes in college basketball influenced by organized crime. High-profile cases include Pete Rose, who was banned for life from baseball for betting on games, and speculation around Michael Jordan’s abrupt 1993 retirement being linked to gambling. Corruption extends to referees as well, with NBA ref Tim Donaghy caught in a betting scandal involving the mob. Recent scandals include Shohei Ohtani and his interpreter Ippei as well as Jontay Porter and David Fletcher. These instances underscore the persistent threat gambling poses to the integrity of sports.

you talk like kevin from the office it’s like you finish every sentence with a question mark
couldn’t get past a minute sorry brother
It’s funny the only made the basketball one know. I had no clue about the others until I saw this video. You know why the media did that lol 🤷🏾♂️
My great grandfather was a bookmaker in bensonhurst and got his nickname cincy from the 1919 world series
As a young gambling addict this is just the beginning, this will become a serious problem in the future
What’s the over and under for how many views this video will get 😂
The NBA, NFL, UFC all corrupt. I'm sure all the rest of the sports are too I just don't watch them. And every time I peep a fix or rigged game I turn it off. Sports are damn near ruined now for the greed of money
Micheal Jordan didn’t just retire
There’s gonna be people banned all over the place now
My twist on the already known theory: MJ was betting on himself/the Bulls and that’s why he “retired”. His competitive drive didn’t come from a desire to be great at basketball, he was just trying to win his bets. He loved gambling a lot more than he loved basketball. I don’t think he was doing crooked stuff like throwing games or taking bribes, but I do think he was taking his points over and betting on his team to win/cover.
These names don't "sound familiar" because you didn't pronounce them correctly. There's only been 1000 of movies/docs/youtube videos where the names "Rick Kuhn" and "Lucchese family" are pronounced properly
I mean, athletes are people. And cash rules….wait, this guy just glossed over that racist comic strip talkin about the sox scandal? Interesting.
Anyways, i know these guys make a lotta money but athletes spend like crazy. And when you have a bet depending on how much you score or dont score, things are gonna happen. And this doesnt take consideration how little yesteryear's athletes were paid.
Nice Video, I love the editing. have my sub lol
It was not “just helping out a friend picking games” for donehy
In America !! No in the World he was recognized same the other Mike….
W for including Wisconsin as a state that legalized cause it is technically on tribe lands
Incorrect about the Black Sox- the 1919 White Sox were called the Black Sox because the owner, Charles Comiskey, charged his players to launder their uniforms so in protest they wouldnt wash them, which quickly made them not look very white at all and sportswriters who were obsessive about nicknames in that time game them the Black Sox moniker, that then stuck as a legacy nickname due to them being "redacted" as a team.
The last name Kuhn is pronounced like "Coon" as in Raccoon," at least when anglicized in the US.
4 ads and I'm not even 1:15 in, chill bro
This is a great video!
shane pinto for the ottawa senators in the NHL got suspended for 41 games (half a season) last season for gambling on games that were in completely different sports and leagues, no NHL games. the major leagues aren't messing around when it comes to players gambling on sports.
Charlie Hustle never bet on baseball
Commissioner died a week after the ban yeah that was a true hit
This guy voice is killing me 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️is this AI?
Jimmy conway is the fictional name used in the movie Goodfellas. His name was Jimmy "the gent" Burke. Come on, man
Great video bro
As Rose said, he just needed an interpreter.
NBA and integrity in the same sentence is a contradiction. Same with NFL and to some extent NCAA and MLB.
What happened with the MLB investigation of David Fletcher betting? Good luck finding it on the internet. Were the findings never published because Ohtani might have been implicated? When the Ohtani gambling news broke, I asked who else on the Angels was making bets, and then we hear about David Fletcher. Couple that with the Tyler Skaggs OD death and other Angels players taking opiods, and the Angels have a culture problem.
