Arne Slot seeks Liverpool’s ‘Next Roberto Firmino.’ #anfield #liverpooltv #liverpoolplayer #football
Liverpool is reportedly interested in signing Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier this summer, a player often compared to former Reds star Roberto Firmino. Firmino joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim nine years ago, and now Beier is attracting attention after an impressive Bundesliga season, scoring 16 goals in 33 games at just 21 years old. Liverpool is among several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, interested in acquiring him.
Standing at 6’1″ and capable of playing the ‘false 9’ role that Firmino excelled in, Beier has impressed scouts this past season. He frequently drops deep into midfield and excels in progressive passing metrics. Unlike Firmino, Beier also possesses rapid pace, making him one of the quicker attackers in European football and versatile enough to play on either flank or through the middle.
Legendary German striker Miroslav Klose, who coached against Hoffenheim two years ago, is a big fan of Beier’s talents. He said, “I played against him in my first years as FC Bayern’s U17 coach, and his qualities were immediately apparent. He runs an incredible amount, works for the team, and rewards himself with goals. I’m sure Julian Nagelsmann (Germany’s head coach) has him on his radar.”
Beier has made the German national team ahead of EURO 2024, wearing the number 14 jersey and expected to compete with Thomas Muller and Nicklas Fullkrug. Beier reportedly has a release clause of just £25,5 million, which Liverpool could activate this summer, making him a potential bargain—precisely the type of deal that FSG has sought in recent years.
Liverpool have previously activated release clauses to sign players like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, and Beier could fit right into Liverpool’s frontline, competing with Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo. Maximilian Beier feels like exactly the type of player Liverpool will target this summer. Although fans might want a bigger name, FSG consistently looks to sign younger players with release clauses they believe are below the player’s value—the type of transfer they aim to complete quickly.
However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will pursue another attacker, given they already have five first-team players in those positions and the emerging Jayden Danns. Should Liverpool decide to move on from one of their current attackers, Beier could be a top target.
