How To Release The Golf Club
30 Comments
work well today in tournament, but not off a tee with irons. We will see tomorrow second day of tournament.
At the point in the full release where the arms are now straight at a roughly 40 degree angle, is the right palm over the left hand, under the left hand or are the two palms facing each other?
Hi Clay and Q, if a person is practising a slightly in to out path… at the release point should the club point an inch or two right of the ball to target line (or the point 4 feet in front on that line)? And does this apply if practising a fade as well, going slightly left of that release point. Thanks, Brian
Clay, great video, but be good to see the path of the club at the straight line release point, assume it's fairly left of the ball (needs view from behind you), but video doesn't show that club head/shaft position or angle (apologies if I've missed that somewhere).
Need help with this. Thank you.
thx dude
Amazing! I do all of these just as he says just before I release the club into the lake.
Hi clay I have a dominate leading arm swing and I'm trying to get my trailing arm to extend fully as with woods I'm getting a lot of fading and slicing ,so you have a video with a drill that will help me work on this thanks
excellent video !
Hi.. is it the same movement for driver ,wood 3 and rescue? Thanks 🙏
I am a high single digit handicap, I have always been a hand flipper to get speed ,this was a flawless understandable explanation. I got it after about 50 swings, total diffrent concept but the club speed feels slow and slightly mechanical ,speed has to come from somewhere, do I rotate body faster, thats hard to do.
have been in Raleigh, NC? I swear I've seen you on my home course.
Best ever !
Clay could not releasing the club cause a slice? I know rolling it over for me will cause a hook. So I tend I think to block out to the right. I’ve done everything strong grip flat wrist clubhead alignment checkpoints and I have managed to turn that into a nice fade. But I think that’s my missing point. I mean I’m not complaining I can hit that 270. But the odd times I’ve turned it into a draw I can carry 290 300 very weird special circumstances I have carried 320. But I’m usually around 260 270 250 when the slice rears it’s ugly head.
Dude.. so glad I found your channel! Thanks for explaining this!!
Thanks for the video. I thought that the left leg needed to be fully extended st impact to create more power. But you're saying to bend it to create more forward shaft lean at impact?
This is an amazing instruction video. I know it’s older but I just found it a few moths ago. It has absolutely changed my game as I was struggling with getting the feel for proper release. The half club demonstration was a lightbulb moment! I will recommend this video to anyone I talk with who is struggling with their game – except my playing partners, lol. I used to dread mid/long iron shots. Now I can’t wait to hit them. Thanks for putting this content out, Clay. You are officially my go-to for help going forward.
This is a really clear and concise explanation of releasing the club. Really enjoyed this video! Well done guys!!!
Clay,I’m liking the hat. I may have to copy
Your style
Clay, Great explanation and examples of right and wrong. Question: What, if any, changes with shorter irons/wedges combined with the ball being further back at address?
F=ma. Force = mass times acceleration. Want to release while accelerating
but this happens naturally if you don't interfer in the natural swinging of the club
Here's what I especially like – at aprox 6:50 secs a brief explanation of the 'golf Squat' – allowing forward lean in shaft –I mention because So Many Videos talk about Squat and side bend, along with -'Look at how this guy stays behind ball….' And every time I try it…I'm hitting it FAT!!! Ok , now I'm realizing that wouldn't be the case if I left a wee bit of lag & had the forward shaft lean… 🙂 Clay shows almost to knee's if shaft is leaned forward enough 🙂
By all appearances you seem like a nice guy, Clay. But unlike the the rest of the commenters I see no reason to lift you on our shoulder and parade you down Main Street. Like so many other YouTube golf instructors what you are actually promoting is handle dragging. Not your intention for sure, as you see the big evil as “flipping.” I submit the feeling of a “flip” is nearer to the correct release feel than pulling the handle forward. Assuming weight shift, body rotation are properly executed.
This is one of your best videos. I think it could help a lot of people. Thanks Clay.
I've been doing it wrong all this time. Never have seen anyone explain it before. Maybe I will be able to hit it past the ladies tee box now. 🙂
Fantastic explanation of the modern release.
I finally got this working for me! At least for the irons. I don’t roll my hands. Just kinda snap it through to that arm straight position. I tuck a golf t under each armpit to stay connected
It all seems to look right on video
Thanks Clay
Hi Clay excellent video, just one question the lead hand looks like it’s in flexion from impact till into the straight line release? Is that correct or when does the lead wrist start moving into extension? Thanks again
This is your best video making the proper release easy to understand thanks.
