The danger in practicing this is it might encourage flipping. Arguably, the biggest problem amateurs have.
That's Jack Carson.
My problem with this is casting and early extension. I feel like I have to swing with my shoulders but keep my hands soft so they just release by themselves. Any attempt to use my wrists leads to the casting and a slice.
The 'student' here is not an amateur–it's Jimmy Demeret, 3 time Masters winner and frequent co-host of the old Shell Wide World of Golf series.
Great lesson. Thanks. Subscribed
Also that "celebrity" in the Sam Snead video was Jack Carson, a fairly big name in the 50s.
I think the student is Don Drysdale, Hall of Fame pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Snead's pupil is Jack Carson, a successful actor from the 30s to the 50's. Warner Brothers stock player.
What makes the clubface square at impact?
yes “the student” here was an actor in the 40’s and 50’s that I recognize from multiple movies. He usually played the big dumn lug type of guy in the movies.
Excellent advice my golf brother! Golf on dude 👍👍👍
I love watching the old golfers swing. Just beautiful swings they had.
Tremendous tip!!!!! Best I have seen. Thank you!
This is spot on and a place I’m trying to get to. At 53 I need a smoother and with less effort swing. Thanks for sharing. ⛳️🏌🏻
You have told my mind how to do it. Now tell my body to do it because the damn thing doesn’t follow.
One great way of improving your release is to just simply position your hands in the position that you can best release the club thru, from. You may find that the butt end of the club will be pointing at the ball from an inside position. How to get into that position from the top of the backswing is the million dollar question. And, as you say: we should not pull on the club.
Great to see Slammin’ Sammy Snead. I saw him play at the Florida Citrus Open in the early 70’s. One of the most fluid swings in golf.
Sammy is / was my blood relative. We share the Snead DNA. And I suck at golf.
What about club face control and impact alignments?
Every time I’ve tried a more hands/arms oriented swing, I end up inviting a flip or hook
I took out my hands completely. Brought me only into trouble like push slices and stuff. I just turn, lift my arms and follow through with my hips. Less distance but dead straight.
I am shorter but more accurate with plane swing method. I can hit further without a doubt using wrist hinge. Squaring the face is harder with wrist. Pick your poison. Dechaumbe doesn't use the sneed method and everyone is physically different and have different athletic attributes. We have a player who is 93 in our league and does just fine with his punch shots. Wrist hinge is good if the timing of everything else goes with it, if not you are playing recovery golf 🤷♂️
Great old actor Jack Carson.
I am confused since I saw a video by you saying to snap the wrists from the top of the BS, yet Sneed says to snap at impact.
