Golfers will use the old clubhouse at Elmwood Golf Course for one more season as construction is on track for the new one to open next year.

The replacement will be a 10,000-square-foot clubhouse designed to accommodate the heavy traffic the popular 27-hole public course sees on a regular basis.

“We’re definitely right on schedule. Things are going really good,” city park development specialist Tory Miedema said. “We’re to the point of rough-ins and sheetrock, so it’s really starting to take shape. We’ve got all the doors and windows in, and now we’re working on the behind-the-scenes stuff, finishing up utilities, HVAC and all that.”

As part of the overall project, the city also is building a cart storage building to house the golf cart fleet and a wing for the First Tee program. The South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame also will be relocated to the clubhouse.

The goal is to complete the project by October so the city and its golf management company, Landscapes Golf Management, can move in over the winter and have it ready to go for the spring of 2026.

Once the new building is ready to open, the old one will be torn down and replaced with a practice green.

The course has a record season last year, and the clubhouse replacement “is the last step in finishing it out,” Miedema said. “We did the actual course renovations with the airport a few years back and then did the parking lot two years ago, so this is kind of the finishing touch.”
