Philomath High’s boys and girls golf teams hit the links for the first time ever Wednesday with appearances in the Mallard Creek Invitational near Lebanon.

Seniors Silas Pittman, Logan Matthews and Hudson Raab all finished with three strokes of one another with scores of 95, 97 and 98, respectively. Raab had the best start with a team-best 45 on the front nine.

Rounding out the varsity were senior Elijah Bush (102) and junior Roman Robins (105).

Sprague won the team title by eight points over runner-up Stayton. Individually, Stayton’s Isaac Laro won by two strokes over a pair of Sprague golfers.

In the girls’ competition, seniors Anneka Steen and Reagan Chisholm finished among the top 25 with scores of 132 and 133, respectively. Steen had a slow start but had a better back nine with a team-best 58. Chisholm was more consistent with 65 and 68.

Junior Isabelle Muir was in the same neighborhood with a score of 136. Seniors Sophia Bauer and Ashleigh Brown finished with 140 and 148, respectively.

Sheldon easily won the team title with a 1-2-3-4 finish among the individuals. Sylvia Czarnecki had the top score at 79, which was three strokes better than the runner-up.

Philomath’s golf teams are scheduled to see their next action this coming Monday. The girls will play at Diamond Woods Golf Course at Monroe while the boys compete at Emerald Valley Golf Club at Creswell.
