The Walker Cup trophy onsite at Cypress Point, the host site for this year’s amateur team event … More between the U.S. and Great Britain & Ireland. Ticketing will be conducted by a random lottery for the first time.

With one of the year’s biggest golf tournaments on the horizon, a ticket lottery is now open for fans to visit one of the world’s most exclusive private clubs and watch some of the game’s best players while walking one of the nation’s top-rated courses.

No, this isn’t the Masters ticket lottery for the season’s first golf major next month at Augusta National. Wannabe patrons are too late for that, at least for this year. Instead, the USGA has officially opened a ticket application process for September’s Walker Cup Match at Cypress Point Club on California’s Monterey Peninsula.

Due to demand and limited accessibility at Cypress Point, this is the first time single-day public tickets will be fulfilled by random selection to ensure equitable distribution.

The ticket application process is open at the Walker Cup website through April 18, with each adult applicant permitted to apply for up to four tickets per day, as well as two complimentary junior tickets for kids 17-and-under.

The par 3 15th hole at Cypress Point, which is widely recognized as one of the best golf courses in … More the nation.

Not unlike Augusta National, which has had a day pass lottery since 1994, those applicants chosen in the random selection will be notified via email and given a timeline to complete their ticket purchase. Tickets are priced at $200 apiece for the Saturday and Sunday competition rounds at the 50th Walker Cup Match, which is scheduled for Sept. 5-7. Tickets to Friday’s practice round (and flag-raising ceremony) are $100 each.

The Walker Cup is the top amateur team event in golf, contested every two years between 10-man squads from the U.S. and the Great Britain & Ireland. The USGA selects the players on the USA team, while The R&A chooses the GB&I side.

The U.S. holds a 39-9-1 lead overall in Walker Cup competition, including a 14 ½ to 11 ½ win during the 2023 match on the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland. The U.S. won seven of the 10 singles matches on Sunday to earn its fourth straight victory in the biennial event.

Cypress Point was designed by architect Alister MacKenzie, who also helped create Augusta National.

Cypress Point, the No. 2 U.S. course behind only Pine Valley in Golf.com’s latest Top 100 rankings, last hosted the Walker Cup in 1981. Corey Pavin, Jay Sigel and Hal Sutton were among those on that U.S. squad, which won 15-9.

The Walker Cup is scheduled to visit a handful of other top clubs and courses in the world for its future matches, with Lahinch in Ireland set to host the 2026 event, followed by Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in 2028. The USGA has also announced U.S.-based sites for 2032 (Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh), 2036 (Chicago Golf Club), and 2044 (Pine Valley in New Jersey).
