Houston Open Predictions: Bet Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy waiting for Masters | GoLow Golf

John Middlekauff discusses this week’s Texas Children’s Houston Open, which is headlined by recent Players Champion Rory McIlroy as well as Scottie Scheffler. John likes Scottie to win, but not for reasons you might expect, and Rory may throttle down a bit before the Masters. Next, John takes a look back to last week’s Valspar tournament, and gives winner Viktor Hovland a ton of credit for fending off Justin Thomas and winning after a rough start to his season. Finally, John opens up the Go Low Mailbag to answer all of your golf questions.

  1. When building your perfect player I’m surprised you didn’t mention Cam Smith for wedges/putting. His short game is ridiculous. He made Rory’s short game look amateurish at St Andrews in 2022.

  2. On the mailbag question about adding length to drives, there are a few ways to just add a couple yards, form, strength training etc.., but I will say when I switched up to a Cobra driver a few years ago I added about 15 to 20 yards in length it really was amazing the difference, and I was switching from a Callaway so was not going from a low end to high end…, I really like my Ping Irons and would not trade them for anything…. Great video thanks for the golf content.!!

  3. Some of these guys falling off I think has to do with the money and the fact they have no coach/manager/owner having expectations.. they aren’t on a salary so it’s much easier to put off the work for later or feel like big money can happen “next week”

  4. I agree that even though a individual Sport, it needs fiery Rivalries or atleast fiery Players in general (Like a Rahm, like A Sergio, like a Tiger, like a Dechambeau, like a Spieth when He was at the top of His game. Nothing is more entertaining than the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup when Teams/Players get so fired up. Like Rory-Patrick Reed Matchup.. it doesnt need to be a “Team” thing but it just needs to have something added to it from either a Personality or something. Aberg seems cocky and confident but in he’s too quiet in a sense. Btw i like the Davis’ this week Davis Thompson and Davis Riley.
