Legendary CBS Sports host Jim Nantz has opened up on his plan to retire as lead broadcaster at the Masters – albeit in over a decade’s time.
Nantz, who has called golf’s first major championship of the year since 1989, revealed the exit strategy he has put together in an interview with Bunkered.
All going well, the 65-year-old wants the 2036 tournament in Augusta to be his last.
‘If all the stars aligned, right now, it feels like a pretty good exit point: April 14, 2036,’ he said.
‘That is my scheduled retirement date. It would be a perfect place to walk out.’
Nantz will be 76 by the time the 2036 Masters comes around, and it will also mark the 100th anniversary of the illustrious competition.

Should he continue to work as lead broadcaster for the next 11 years, that tournament will also be the veteran anchor’s 47th Masters.
Back in 2023, Nantz retired from working on college basketball’s Final Four in order to focus on his family and other broadcasting commitments.
As well as the Masters, he also covers the PGA Championship and PGA Tour.
The Masters is currently operating on a year-to-year deal with CBS, meaning it is not clear what will happen after 2036.
But Nantz added: ‘I know what’s going to happen. I’m going to get to that year, and I’m going to say, “You know, maybe I could do this for a while longer.”
‘We have broadcasters over here that have gone on well into their 80s, so that’s one of those “wait and sees”, I guess.’
