I’m so impressed by Sam benching the golden boys for Rafa.
I caddied for an Amateur playing in Rafa campos group at the Sony this year and I can tell you everything they are talking about the Puerto Rican is so true. He worked the group—players and caddies and anyone else around— in exactly the ways Mr Palmer would be proud. I had an awesome conversation with Rafa (we were very agreeable about a lot of things).
The fact Rafa has won more recently than Jordan and JT is beside the point.
This decision is the kind of leadership that has me feeling Sam should take over commissioner duties for the pga tour sooner than later.
We know guys like Jordan and JT are popular but asking them to wear a mic or do an interview for the good of the tour is like pulling teeth. Rafa is the kind of guys who would have no problem.
And to his credit it’s Sam who sees all of this. It tells us he is very observant and wise at a still relatively young age. But What else would we expect from The Kings grandsons and protégée?
That being said I’m not the biggest fan of losing the personality of the 17th hole by removing that beautiful bunker in the name of more convenient maintenance. Mr Palmer would respect Sam’s decision no doubt; but would Mr Palmer have made that choice himself?
There are SO MANY stories you hear over the years, about Arnold Palmer. It's a cliche, but here goes: "They don't make 'em like that, anymore."
The next Commissioner? I think so.
Thank the Palmer Family for all they have done for a better world through golf, healthy actives, and the love of sport. God bless!
