On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo react to a slow weekend of news on the QB front.

Could coach Mike Tomlin and GM Omar Khan actually consider Mason Rudolph for the starting job after he signed last week? And not simply a backup role to either Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers? Are the signings of either of those players in jeopardy after more days of inaction? And are the Steelers wise not to overspend on a QB with an eye toward the future?

Our duo tackles those questions; ponders where Daniel Ekuale fits in the defensive tackle mix after signing him via NFL free agency over the weekend; and analyzes Darius Slay’s chances to help particularly in man coverage alongside fellow cornerbacks like Joey Porter Jr. and Cory Trice Jr.

  1. I am for rolling with Mason this year. Does anyone make the Steelers any better? Put the money into other core players.

  2. QB will not matter until Art Rooney II's fever dream of forcing the Steelers to be a smashmouth ball control offense is OVER. When Tomlin's 'no losing seasons' record was in jeopardy, Rooney fired Canada, and Eddie Faulkner has Mason Rudolph throwing aggressive motion routes designed for yac. Mason excelled, opposed to the 2019 dink-n-dunk year. Not sure how Smith's West Coast scheme will ultimately work, but until Rooney gives up on reliving the Glory Days of the Steelers Tradition of ball control… it won't matter.

  3. rodgers would never choose the steelers over the vikings, a 14-2 team with a qb super friendly design and even better weapons and especially playing in the dome…during both favre and especially rodgers career, he was always awesome until the frozen tundra destroyed his passing game in the playoffs and they would lose to physical teams and of course rodgers game is in nice weather or indoors where your fingers aren't frozen/windy/shitty weather, and no way a rookie qb comes in that currently needs to put 30 pounds back on his frame/etc as well, beats out aaron roders haha the vikings is the perfect situation for rodgers, and a way less venomous fan base, and then aaron playing with the steelers playbook ahaha if there is actually a "legit" opportunity to play for the vikings, no way in hell he'd choose pitts

  4. What's occurring to me is that none of us really knows how to judge a prospective quarterback. You don't. I don't. Coaches don't. Reporters don't. It's a complete mystery. I'm ready to go with Mason just on the basis of "Do you feel lucky?"

  5. Mason deserves an opportunity, if he blows it, we will get a better spot in the Pittsburgh Draft weekend! I would also pick Tyler Shough, he looks like a typical Steelers tough blond bomber qb
