I need your advice and input GBA community. What clubs should I use to test golf balls this year?

  1. How about this drop the 9 iron and replace it with a pitching wedge and instead of the hybrid use a 5 iron. Most golfers use a 4/5 iron or hybrid so this data should remain in my opinion thanks for great videos keep up the great job

  2. I think you can drop the 5 hybrid and do 4 clubs. Seems like many golf balls spin great with the shorter irons and not so much with the hybrid and driver which is ok- none of them are perfect. The data is interesting and informative, to your point, but if it helps you get reviews out more quickly, I’m for that. If you are to keep the 5 at all, go with the iron. Good luck!

  3. First…great channel. Love your reviews. Have recommended your channel to all my golf friends. I use a 3 and 4 hybrid a lot so would like you to keep a hybrid in the line up. If you want to drop the hybrid, at least add a 5 iron. I think you need something between a 7 iron and a driver.

  4. I use a 2H & 4H, but I’m cool with dropping hybrid testing. How about testing PW, 8i, 6i, and driver?

  5. Pw.. 7.. driver.. people can determine most information they need based off those numbers.. which is why most testers use this format

  6. Its more selfish of me but I'd say instead of the 5 hybrid make it a 3 hybrid or 5 wood. Either way, hope to see some on course reviews too — I enjoy watching others golf while waiting for snow to melt here.

  7. Totally understand the time crunch, but many people play hybrids and even woods these days, such as 7 and even 9 woods. Maybe replace the hybrid with a wood sufficiently far away enough from the driver instead?

Maybe drop the 9 iron and test with the driver, wood/hybrid, 7 iron, wedge and putter so every type of club is represented once in the tests.

  8. Could you develop a slower, say 80mph swing to use as well as your normal faster one? It would be very interesting to see which balls do better comparatively with the slower speed.
Wrt the actual question, I personally think driver + 7 iron is enough, along with the usual chip and put tests, to give a good indication.

  9. Personally I like the hybrid. If it drops the ball score that's the balls fault. So many people use 7 woods or hybrid that I think one hybrid is worth it. Ultimately though I'll be on board for whatever decision you make, but that's my 2¢ on the hybrid

  10. 1. Driver, a 30-33* iron and a 45-48* wedge.
    2. Match the ball to the user…soft balls-game improvement irons, players irons with the higher compression balls. Thank you, sir, for all you do.

  11. 90% of the game will most likely use: Driver / Fairway 3W / 7 Iron / 9 Iron / PW / Putter… anything passed those are moderate uses. Yeah we use "other" clubs but every game I have ever played always used these primary six clubs.

  12. If average golfers aren't using hybrids, or at least hybrid irons, they're shooting themselves in the foot. Not sure if, or how that should be relevant to your testing. Just thinking out loud.
    Love the channel.

  13. I would like to see this rotation. 9 iron 6 iron 15 to 16 degree fairway wood Driver. 7 and 9 to close together. Fairway wood can be very difficult to hit it would be nice to see a golf ball that performs well with those clubs.

  14. Having a hybrid is valuable, almost everyone I golf with regularly has at least one in the bag. Maybe a 3 or 4 hybrid to more evenly cover the gap between driver and 7 iron?

  15. I'd keep it the same I would try to add the seven iron for sure after the hybrid definitely 7 iron is the most used club for slower swingers

  16. Maybe replace the hybrid with a 5W or something like that; lofted woods are getting popular and might be more useful than a hybrid. Otherwise, I strongly suggest you drop the rating for alignment. You can get markers and alignment stencils for a few bucks and mark up your ball any way that helps you putt better.

  17. I think the 9 iron and 7 iron are too close in loft and distance. I like keeping the 50 yard pitch so we get spin numbers. I like keeping the 9 iron so we see a short iron. I’d drop the 7 iron for the 6 iron so there is more distance separation between the two irons. The driver is a must keep, obviously. But that does still leave a big distance gap between the driver and the 6 iron. And that is a distance gap that a lot of your viewers are sitting in on a lot of their second shots on par 4s and par 5s on a regular basis, and probably on a significant number of par 3s for the tee shot. So I feel to have the best testing possible, there needs to be a club between 6iron and driver. Like many other commentators, I feel the 5 wood is the best compromise for this spot, although I wouldn’t hate the 3 hybrid. Sorry, Nick, I know keeping the same number of clubs is a lot of work, but otherwise it is a very large gap from driver to the longest iron. Thanks.

  18. I would suggest to take several nasty shots with wedges and in bunkers for all urethane golf balls to check their actual cover durability. This goes especially for colored TPU golf balls like the ones coming from Vice and see if that paint is not messed up after a few bad shots

  19. Hi Nick, I think the way you do it is fine. I don't use a 5 hybrid but all the figures work out. I would agree with most that a fairway wood is more likely to be in our bags. A 5 or 7 wood would be ideal for me.

  20. Hey Nick. I’d drop the 9-iron data. I’m average and playing way more hybrids and long irons than 9 irons into greens. Keep up the great work!

  21. 250, 200, 150, 100, 50 yard clubs. I am more interested in distance control. I don't want a golf ball that flies 165 with my 150 club.

  22. Pitching wedge, 7-iron, 4-hybrid OR 5-wood, and driver. This selection spreads out lofts well and reflects what’s in many people’s bags. Of course, the SW is included like you said. Thanks!

  23. I never seem to be able to hit a hybrid. Gaming a 7w and a 5w. Would love to see the 5h replaced by a 5w, that would be a club a lot of people play (or should play instead trying to hit a 3w off the deck)
