Relocating a 500,000-pound tree at TPC Sawgrass | THE PLAYERS Championship
In honor of course architect Pete Dye’s original intent and an infamous tree that was overhanging on the 6th hole tee box, the team at TPC Sawgrass found and moved a massive tree to recreate the intimidation factor. Davis Love III, two-time winner of THE PLAYERS Championship, was brought in to help oversee the work on No. 6 along with some modifications to several other holes.

1st view!
great story for an iconic tree
That tree got a promotion
why the decision to remove the tree in the first place?? but glad it was restored, i recall it the first time i saw it and was like Wow
If you need a tree to be a strategic element like this one. and you have the budget, like they did. Id just get disney to come in and build you a decorative (concrete) tree like they do for their parks so it never changes or dies.
generally I don't like Davis Love's designs…not very creative imo
Need Davis to come to French lick!!!!!
This is true dedication and passion for the sport and for the course!!! Well done, Davis!!!
Wow, relocating a 500,000-pound tree is no small feat! Curious about the environmental impact and how it benefits the course long-term. Thoughts?
It's great to see the original design intent honoured and the drama restored. A job very well done. Congrats to all the team involved.
I used to live near Sawgrass, I've played there 7/8 times! Love that course! One time I met Pete and he signed a golf ball for me!
Pete Dye was a genius and Davis learned from that as evidenced by his course at Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach.
Can't wait to see pros banging balls off the tree for the next 50 years.
So how’d we build the pyramids??
