Tiger Woods looks likely to miss the entire major season after rupturing his Achilles.
The golfing legend was expected to tee it up at the Masters in April due to an extended break from PGA Tour action following the death of his mother.

But Woods is now doubtful for all four majors in 2025 – including The Open at Royal Portrush in July – with an injury that typically requires a minimum of four to six months’ recovery.
“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods wrote on social media.
“This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.
“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.”
Dr. Stucken added: “The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery.”
It is the latest devastating blow for Woods, who had only just recovered from his sixth back operation in September 2024.
That followed a lengthy period on the sidelines after ankle fusion surgery in April 2023.
The 49-year-old, who struggled with injuries throughout his glory days, continues to battle the impacts of a near-fatal car accident in 2021.
Since the crash, Woods has prioritised playing in the majors, competing in eight of the last 12 – but only completing 72 holes twice.
The 15-time major winner had been taking part in the inaugural TGL season with Jupiter Golf Links – after helping to create the indoor simulator league alongside Rory McIlroy.

He pulled out of the Genesis Invitational in February and did not enter the field for The Players this week, recently admitting his ‘heart was not into practicing’ after his mother’s death.
“This is the third time I’ve touched a club since my mom passed, so I haven’t really gotten into it,” Woods said earlier this month.
“My heart is not really into practicing right now. I’ve had so many other things to do with the TOUR and trying to do other things.
“Once I start probably feeling a little bit better and start getting into it, I’ll start looking at the schedule.”
Woods has been heavily involved in the PGA Tour’s negotiations with the Saudi Public Investment Fund over the reunification of men’s professional golf.
The American was present in recent White House meetings with US president Donald Trump, LIV Golf chief Yasir Al-Rumayyan and PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.

Talks recently hit an impasse, but Monahan expressed renewed hope over a deal during a rare press conference from TPC Sawgrass on Tuesday.
He said: “As part of our negotiations, we believe there’s room to integrate important aspects of LIV Golf into the PGA Tour platform.
“We’re doing everything that we can to bring the two sides together.”
