Two teenagers were among three people rushed to hospital after violent clashes between warring traveller families battled it out armed with shovels and golf clubs.

Violence broke out on a beachfront street as around 20 thugs from the feuding families battered each other with metals poles and even a road sign was used as a makeshift weapon.

Police confirmed a probe is underway after three males – aged 20, 17 and 15 – were left seriously injured in the brutal attack, the Daily Record reports.

The shocking scenes were captured on camera in Ayrshire in Scotland on Sunday (March 9) and videos shared on social media shows masked men driving at speed in a large white van towards a traveller encampment.

Caravans and other vehicles are seen in the background as the men speed towards them in Stevenson, where one of the traveller clans is understood to be living in a car park close to the seaside town’s beach. One of the group is then heard shouting: “Don’t ram! Don’t ram the van!”

In the 35-second-long clip, another man is heard saying: “Out, now!” before he and a group of others pile out of the vehicle and race towards the opposing group.

One man can be seen swinging a spade, while another wielding a road sign follows on. A third man is seen using a golf club as a weapon, while others have huge metal poles.

The footage cuts off before an injured man is seen lying on the ground. Another clip then shows one using his weapon to smash in a car window as a terrified driver cowers inside.

Many of the men, clad in hi-vis clothing are then filmed smashing up more cars and a caravan at the car park.

More violence continued off camera after the group left the site and descended on a Morrisons supermarket around two miles away in the town’s Kilwinning Road.

Inspector Douglas Clark from Irvine Police Station said: “Enquiries are ongoing following a disturbance in the Trelawney Terrace area of Stevenson. Officers are following a positive line of enquiry and a police presence will remain in the area while we carry out investigations.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “Three ambulances and a trauma team were dispatched to the scene and three patients were transferred to the University Hospital Crosshouse.”

Later the same night, a caravan was torched while parked in a car park of a local youth football club, which is around a mile away from both the supermarket and car park where the clash took place. It is not yet known if the incidents are linked.
