DON’T Waste Time Practicing In Golf – Do This With All Clubs

In this video I take a look at some very basic set up positions that work with every golf club. Each time I step on the golf course I have a tendency to forget one or two of these basic elements of the swing and it has a detrimental affect on my performance. If only I could remember each of these three elements it would make a huge difference to my consistency.

  1. God love those who don't need to practice or warm up prior to playing. I do believe that's not the majority of us. I practice 2 to 3 times a week and play 1 per. I do enjoy the grind and I do need "to find my swing" before playing.
As for the tucked right elbow. That key was golden for me in finding a repeatable swing and additional distance thru the entire bag.

  2. Agree Andy – exactly what I was saying to my other half today especially with chipping – tuck right elbow in – left hand on the club and right hand is ‘feed the horse’ always keep your forearms facing up and palm pointing to the sky as you put the right hand on – love these vids 👍

  3. What course are you playing ? I might have a bash at that on GSP loving that hole and thanks for the tips god knows I need all the help I can get.

  4. Love the right fore-arm position. It has helped me hit straighter shots than before. Just need a little more distance now. Thanks Andy.

  5. Practicing the pre shot routine is very important to get it on autopilot as it were. I am reminded of Tiger at 2000 US open where he took about 40 seconds for each shot over 4 days – same routine for each shot. Now even when practicing rhythm and timing, I don't just pull another ball out, but get behind and do all the pre shot routine before walking up to the ball – it makes a positive difference. I would be interested to know if you did that even where you are for the vid, if it changes the outcome. My main change now is hovering the club behind the ball; I get a more centre contact now compared to previously resting the driver.

  6. Simple stuff we often lose track of Andy for sure. Chris is one of my subscriptions along with you, find the both of you easy to understand with the way you present and discuss whatever the topic. You & Chris should play a round and post it for us.

  7. Your swing and contact are excellent. Why do you think you are not getting much longer distances. I am similar to you and I fell like I get after the ball but I am also around that 200 – 220 carry. I use a 55 gm Stiff shaft. Comfortable for my back …is this why I am giving up yards?

  8. Amazingly smooth practice swing but actual swing appears to be tense and a bit rushed. Not criticizing just wondering why you/me/and most everyone else don’t swing through with the same tempo as the practice swing?

  9. Chris is it possible for you to include a few slow motion repeats of the swing when you demonstrate please? It would be really interesting particularly in this instance to see the component parts of the swing and how it all comes together when you are demonstrating the tips. Great video as always!
