As US President Donald Trump pushes for a controversial Gaza plan,
pro-Palestinian protesters vandalised parts of the president’s Turnberry golf resort in Scotland. According to BBC, the Vandelisers were part of a group called Palestine Action, which also shared photographs of their deeds on social media. The protesters used red paint across the building located at the Ayrshire course.
The words “Gaza is not for sale” were sprayed across the lush building. Some other photographs that are circulating online showed damaged lamp posts at the resort which is on paper owned by the Trump organisation. A spokesperson representing the American president condemned that incident and referred to it as a “childish, criminal act”.
Meanwhile, Scotland police confirmed that they are investigating the matter. In a separate statement, the Palestinian action group said that it “rejects Donald Trump’s treatment of Gaza as though it were his property to dispose of as he likes. … To make that clear, we have shown him that his property is not safe from acts of resistance.”
The president purchased the golf resort back in 2014 and since then, the building has seen significant renovation. The retreat has three
golf courses, two with 18 holes and a nine-hole course. It is important to note that Turnberry is widely rated as one of the top five golf courses in the world. It has hosted The Open Championship four times, including in 1977 when Tom Watson beat Jack Nicklaus in what famously became known as the “Duel In The Sun”.
Trump’s aggressive rhetoric towards Gaza
Trump stirred major headlines after he pushed a
controversial proposal for the United States to take over Gaza and called for the re-location of 2 million Palestinians living in the coastal enclave. “The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it too,” Trump said during a joint conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last month.
Netanyahu eventually lauded Trump’s proposal and said that the idea is “worth paying attention to”. The Republican firebrand has often said that neighbouring
Arab states should take in the displaced Palestinians from Gaza, a proposition that was rejected and actively criticised in the Middle East.
The president angered even more people after he posted and
AI-generated video of what Gaza might look like if Trump’s United States take over. The Turnberry resort is the second golf resort owned by the Trump organisation in Scotland. In 2012, the business mogul bought Trump International Golf Links in north of Aberdeen following years of controversy.
