  1. We got rebounded way to easily from our forward line (same as previous years), and struggled to lower the eyes and actually find a target instead of consistently bombing the ball and than not being setup behind the ball leading to many goals. Same problems as last season unfortunatley which is very dissapointing

  2. Match simulation for loosing, glad I moved to Tasmania so I can give up north and follow the Tasmania devils

  3. Love NMFC no matter what… what will be will be and it’s a looong season. let’s just hope for some improvement

  4. Luke McDonald can’t be in the starting team week in week out
Lost count how many goals he has kicked on him, can’t keep up

    Sheezel (MIDFIELD ONLY)

  5. There is a reason why its called match simulation. "It doesn't feel like we have improved that much" – seriously? After a match sim? If your sample is 4 quarters since last year, then I would do a little more due diligence. We will make finals. My sample is the early second half of last year.

Players were moved around today, tried elsewhere, and match sim is match sim. Call it for what it is rather than catastrophising.

  6. Your assessment of the game is spot-on, Josh. It was a very disappointing effort and they threw in the towel after three quarter time. We have to pick our best team based on performances, not names. There are some highly credentialed young players in the twos; let's bring them in – they can't be any worse.

  7. North players were just not good enough and Melbourne flicked the switch with 40 minutes to go and easily won with an undermanned team. Can't see the roos winning more than 4 games, LDU goes to Geelong.

  8. 100%. The most disappointing thing is that it’s the exact same thing we’ve been abysmal at for the last few years. How have they not worked on at least on or two of these points.

The practice game excuse is garbage. We’ve won 15 out of 110 games. We should be aiming to win a a race to a water bottle to build confidence.

We desperately need to have a spare defender. We just get flogged when we turn it over inside 50 and it just bounces down the other end.

  9. We need to have mindset to win everything. We just seem to lose everything and it's now normal. We still don't have that one gun that leads us

  10. Loved hearing Ben Brown sticking up for us in commentary, at every opportunity. Even when it wasn't necessary!!! Please bring him back to the NMFC in some capacity. Get him involved with our AFLW team again. The kids love him!!

  11. Bottom 3 again, it’s going to be a long year the same players still making the same mistakes

  12. Yeah, nah. That was dishing up 2024's rotting leftovers. Not fan worthy. Hopefully the team is at least half as embarrassed as their members. Oh well, let's hope next week can bring the demanded redemption.
    I want to believe….

  13. The family fun day game was very very soft. I think result against Dee's was a direct reflection of this. Still time but if we don't hustle it might get ugly. Go norf!

  14. I think Clarkson is not a motivator, he’s lost a step or two cognitively speaking, and that’s not any fault of his own but he should not be a head coach, and it just plays on their worst attitudes 😊

  15. The loss doesnt matter, its the fact we still bomb the ball in every direction. Our general skills are better than last year. But we cant kick, we cant mark

  16. Love your content and insights, I didn't see any of the game, just read comments.

Fact you have brought up iusses that have been happening for the last decade is very concerning heading into this season.

I think the main concern is we haven't improved we keep seeing the same cracks.
Biggest iusse is what our development coaches been doing over the summer? Not sure if it's a talent problem or we just can't develop our young talent.

  17. To me it sounds like the coaches and players have taken the 'getting the culture correct' too far. Everything we hear from the club is 'you wouldn't know we're at the bottom of the ladder, the way we all act together'. Them making each other (and us fans during interviews etc) feel good with platitudes instead of brutal honesty. The messaging from the past 2 seasons has been 'it's gonna take time' & 'we're not there yet'. Patches interview after the game yesterday was utterly baffling. Basically saying they were happy with the game. When I saw the Swans or Hawthorn get trounced in a game last year, the coaches in the post match press conferences said things like 'not good enough' or 'unacceptable performance'. Clarko may very well have the same coaching philosophy he did at Hawthorn, but it doesn't seem like it. He might need to punch a wall again or something 🤣
Sorry for the novel. Lots of thoughts. Might even make a comment about the game itself next!

  18. Forwards need to be taught how to make leads and then actually go on DO it. They also all need to follow Darling's attack on the defensive side of being a forward, otherwise it rebounds out of our F50 quicker than a fart in the wind. Mids need to lower their eyes and practice searching and kicking to leading players. Mids also need to position themselves slightly more defensively, because when we turn it over, it's getting walked down into our D50 and more often than not, a goal. Backline needs to be mostly replaced. I think Goater, Hardeman & Will Dawson when fit need to be in there. Logue looks like he's running with bricks attached to his feet. Arch tries incredibly hard but looks a little off it atm. McDonald, Tucker & Corr are pathetic. They simply cannot be in the senior team. Daniel is the goods, but only when he has the ball, if he has to defend, we're no chance. Overall, the biggest problem though is our lack of speed. We can't catch anyone, even when starting from the same spot. Doesn't look like anything has changed. Getting really sick of 5 months of excitement for a new season, only to be let down as soon as we play real opposition.

  19. At first,I was going to say, it's only a practice match , but the level of concern by many can't be ignored. Worrying signs until we see better.

  20. No Gawn, Petracca, Fritsch, Viney, Windsor, Salem, Langdon, May, McVee. 9 of their best 22! Their best ruck, best mid, best wingman, best forward, best defender. Holy hell.

  21. Absolute crap. Not only we got pounced by the Casey demons but we got a coach saying it's ok if Ldu moves on. After yesterday clarko needs to get serious or just move on. That was a joke in front of a North crowd. Home ground and all we hear from is patch Adams after game .

  22. DO NOT be worried at all with what you saw, look at what transpired individually and look at the bigger picture.

    1. north won centre clearances CONVINCINGLY, north also had more possession of the ball in the first 3 quarters.
    2. North took off Xerri, LDU and Daniels among others in the last quarter which led to the pile on, you think they will do that in season? No. Taylor goad was the sole ruck in the last quarter who is 19 and never played afl, that wont happen in season at all.
    3. there were 3 glaring issues in the game which were overuse of the ball, getting caught out on turnover and the delivery into the forward 50, all of which can be rectified.
    4. it was 36 degrees… that will sap you of energy in a practice game where its pointless to go full on which leads to my next point.
    5. why bother going full on in a practice game? wonder how melbourne feel right now knowing they lost 1 player for the entire year to an acl and another for months needing wrist surgery…maybe they should have taken players off or scaled back their intensity? North walked away with a clean bill of health. Carlton just lost their Pick 3 young gun for the year to an ACL, im thankful we still have all of ours bar wardlaw who will be back after 6 rounds.
    6. the 28 players who played will be cut to 23 for the season, thats 5 fringe players out that immediately improves the quality of the team overall.

They got exactly what they needed from the game which was match conditioning, learning what to tweak and got out injury free. Onto next week.

  23. Need a new gameplan. And some heart. North sides need to be physical. Whenever this side has played well they have been aggressive defensively. Tackling pressure etc

  24. Stopped listening when you said Luke McDonald was good. This is why I cant take you and cohen seriously. Luke McDonald cannot hit targets by foot. Constant dump kicks and turnovers, open your fucking eyes

  25. Yeah Josh. I understand the early post as Sunday was your big day, but it was still too soon.
We are all crapping ourselves this year because we just have to improve. This wasn’t the game to make a statement though.

  26. I agree that is was pretty disappointing but I would say its too bad just yet. A few players didn't play out the whole game, still trying a few things in match conditions. It would have been nice to see the more senior players setting the tone.
But if it's an average performance or less next week, we are in for another long year. Hopefully it's close to full strength team with everyone playing out the game completely.

Good work Josh, also it might be just me, but I prefer the pods be longer. Like be less concerned about keeping them short, say what you need to, how ever long it takes.

  27. Listening to this today I am certain that this game was not important to our club purely when you said 3 things that’s what I am basing my comment on 1. Sheezel and McKercher mostly Forward in the game 2. Xerri beaten by Campbell -Xerri is a beast and super competitive
    3. No real gameplan evident
I can’t bring myself to believe that a 3 time premiership coach would not be working on a gameplan but thank you sincerely for this review I think you were just honest about everything and that’s the North way we just need the players to understand that is our Creed Honest
    Honest Efforts will bring success
    Cheers 🥂

  28. You shouldn't be disappointed.
Even if we play very well for the practice match, we normally lose round 1 anyway according to our history. We feel more disappointed because of our unreasonable expectation then. Now we doubt this team, so we are ready to see the worst scenario case at round 1.

  29. Pretty dire but honest, would love to see north really open west coast up for a quarter and get a decent win over them, so sick of losing
