Gator aid? Nah, he’ll take this one himself.
PGA golfer Billy Horschel showed absolutely no fear as he poked an alligator with his wedge during Round 1 of the Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
In a moment straight out of Happy Gilmore, Horschel, 38, slowly approached the reptile on the course and poked it with the club.
The creature recoiled in protest, but then scampered away.
The fans went wild, including one who remarked, “That’s a gator getting the gator” — a reference to the golfer’s time at the University of Florida.
“I’m not afraid of gators,” Horschel later told the Associated Press. “Listen, as I tell most people, I said, they’re more afraid of you.
“The majority of the time they’re only going to come after you during mating season where they’re a little aggressive and then if you’re around their nest when they’ve got some eggs. The majority of the time, they’re fine.”
Horschel is no stranger to intensity on the golf course. He famously took on a rowdy fan criticizing a fellow golfer’s swing at last year’s WM Phoenix Open.
“Buddy when he is focused on the shot shut the hell up, man!” Horschel yelled. “Come on, he’s trying to hit a damn golf shot here. It’s our fucking job.”
The Cognizant Classic runs until March 2.
