President-elect Donald Trump said Tuesday that he is planning on changing the Gulf of Mexico’s name to the “Gulf of America.”

The word « America » is related to the name of the whole continent. Gulf of America separates the continent in two parts, North and South, so not abad name for the Gulf of Mexico, although does it need to change ?
What should also change is the improper use by the United States of the terms America and Americans when refering the United States. The country is the United States of America. America is not the proper short version of the country’s name – maybe USA is ?
As far as Americans, it encompasses people from Canada, USA,Mexico, Brasil, Cuba, etc. We are all Americans, living on the American continent. USA should use a name for its people that is not the name for all citizens of the whole continent.
The waters Off of the coast of Mexico is the bay of Campeehe not the gulf of Mexico.

Instead of saying this has never happened or you can't believe he is getting away with it. Think like him and do what no one has the balls to do. Stand up to Trump. Even if he has managed to mulipuate the system, democracy and the rule of law more than any President. How insane is Trump has been impeach twice, a convicted felon and just because he became president beat all the other inditments that everyone knows and saw with there eyes that no president or former president would ever get away with. Yet he won and disgracefully became president again. And because of our failed system he was able to delay delay delay to this point. I was tired of hearing him and his law breaking and disgusting first term and now her he is again with his delusional and ridiculous speeches that make no sense. He isn't making America great again. He is making America weak and a laughing stock.

Just a question. According to the Law of the Sea Convention or the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) from 1982, content shelves belong to the country from which they extend. So in Dec 2023 there was hearing about this and it was confirmed. This means the US gained more area in the Gulf because the shelf is attached to the US. Doesn't it make sense that we need to put that boundary on a map and differentiate it from the international waters of the Gulf of Mexico? Why is there so much drama and attitude this is an insane idea. not like you can plant a sign in the middle of the Gulf saying Entering America. Makes logical sense to label on a map. Seems logical this entails some changes in legalities for sea-going traffic with changes in boundaries, what the laws apply in that area, and whether international courts or US courts handle situations in those areas when crimes are committed.

Do you remember the regulation Biden signed days before he left office that would ban offshore drilling in parts of the Gulf of "Mexico" ? (it was 2 yrs ago that Biden wanted to expand drilling in this and certain parts of Alaska)Gee, what happens with that order when it is not the Gulf of Mexico anymore within the federal government and is now called the Gulf of America ?
