BRAWLEY — The Foundation for Education’s 5th Annual Golf Fundraiser, held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Del Rio Country Club, was a tremendous success, raising essential funds for scholarships that support alternative education and special education students in Imperial County.
A total of 104 golfers, organized into 26 teams, enjoyed a beautiful day on the greens participating in a scramble-style tournament. The event also featured a successful raffle with a variety of prizes, including an RC car donated by Desert RV, restaurant gift certificates, and gift baskets.
The top teams and the Closest to the Pin winners were recognized at the event. The Garland Team, consisting of John Beltran, Mike Reyla, Anthony Valenzuela, and Armando Valenzuela, secured first place. They were followed by the Sun Community Team, made up of Daniel Paramo, Daniel Paramo Jr., Josh Wise, and Joel Gonzalez Sr., and the Smith-Kandal Insurance/Real Estate Team, which included Matt Buckner, Blaise Smith, Josh Fargo, and Dr. Brian Tyson. Blaise Smith and Manny Gamez won the Closest to the Pin contests held on Holes 3 and 16, respectively, earning gift certificates from local businesses.
“A huge thank you to our generous sponsors, enthusiastic golfers, and community members for making our 5th Annual Golf Fundraiser a resounding success, directly benefiting our most vulnerable students,” said Dr. Todd Finnell, County Superintendent of Schools and Foundation for Education President. “We are truly grateful for the support of our community in supporting education.”
The Foundation for Education is currently accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors who are enrolled in alternative education or continuation schools, students at Imperial Pathways Charter School, or those with disabilities attending a career technical school, community college, or university in the Fall. The application deadline is April 17, and scholarship awards will be announced on May 19, 2025.
Additionally, the next Foundation for Education fundraiser, the Annual Autumn & the Arts Fundraiser, will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025. This event celebrates students, the arts, and education.
