You never really forget something that you work hard on. Right? Even after selling it. This is how Mickelson recently felt. Arcis Golf, the second-largest and fastest-growing golf facility operator in the U.S. acquired six Mickelson Golf Properties in 2021. Arcis took over operations just days after the transaction closed. This acquisition included three private clubs and three daily fee courses, all with their unique charm and character. With this move, Arcis now boasts 15 properties in the Phoenix area.
Phil Mickelson praised Arcis’ leadership and their dedication to delivering exceptional experiences for both members and guests. It’s a partnership that promises to bring even more exciting opportunities to golf lovers in the region. The McDowell Mountain was among the properties that were added to Arcis Golf’s portfolio, and it has been over three years now. Lefty got a little nostalgic about the place online. Monday Q Info recently took to its official X account and posted a query regarding the golf course.
They wrote, “Playing golf with some long-time friends today. They are great guys, but terrible golfers. Lol. They made a tee time at McDowell Mountain. Has anyone ever played it? And how many golf balls are they going to lose? Please tell me it’s wide open.” In 2011, a group led by golf legend Phil Mickelson took over McDowell Mountain Golf Club and immediately set out to transform it. The vision was clear: make golf more accessible and enjoyable for all.

Mickelson and Co expanded the turf acreage, removing bunkers, and even adding a portable shade canopy to the practice range, which were well-received by golfers. Players raved about the course improvements, calling it “so much better than a few years ago” and praising its consistent condition. They also mentioned the Mesquite Grille, a local favorite known for its great food and daily happy hour. “We’ve got more than 4,000 homes in the neighborhood, and the response has been fantastic,” said Loy, who was Mickelson’s golf coach at ASU.
Mickelson explained during the grand opening, “I want to see the game of golf grow. I want to see kids get involved, make golf more playable, enjoyable, and visually exciting, and provide families with an affordable place to play.” By 2016, McDowell Mountain had not just met those goals but exceeded them. Taking to this, Mickelson replied to Monday Q Info’s post, “Actually used to own it. Sold it to Arcis a few years ago. The first thing Steve Loy and I did when we bought it was fill in some desert with mounds and grass to make it more playable. It’s still desert golf off the tee but the widest corridors around. You guys will have a blast playing it. Great food for after the round too.”

Lefty’s initial hard work and Arcis’s leadership in the last 3 years must have made the course enjoyable. “It was great. Had a lot of fun. Loved it,” replied Monday Q Info to 6x major winner. At 7,072 yards from the back tees, the course, designed by Randy Heckenkemper, offers a solid challenge for players of all skill levels. Whether you’re playing or simply enjoying a meal at the Mesquite Grille, McDowell Mountain is now an exciting and welcoming spot for golfers and families alike.
Well, as good as Phil Mickelson was in golfing, his business sharpness too is commendable. Just a year before he gave up on his properties, he ensured that he did embark on a new venture, and well, that was successful too.

Phil Mickelson has his own coffee brand
in 2020, five-time major winner Mickelson launched his own coffee brand – Coffee for Wellness. Mickelson teamed up with his longtime friend Dave Phillips, a world-renowned performance coach and co-founder of TPI, to create a coffee blend that combines their shared passion for health, performance, and great-tasting coffee. Coffee for Wellness is designed to boost your morning routine, with its high-quality coffee blend crafted to preserve natural antioxidants that help reduce stress, fight fatigue, and enhance cognitive function.
The coffee comes with Mickelson’s signature blend of powerful ingredients, packed in convenient individual sachets that can give your daily coffee an added wellness boost. The brand’s mission is clear: to complement life’s challenges with a coffee that offers more than just flavor. Coffee for Wellness is now available in single-serve pods, whole bean bags, and portable sachets, giving you a variety of ways to enjoy the blend. The inspiration for the coffee came when Mickelson, in 2020, tried a radical diet that consisted only of water and his special blend coffee for six days.

While the exact ingredients of the blend remain somewhat of a mystery, it’s believed to include Ethiopian coffee beans, MCT oil, collagen protein powder, Himalayan pink sea salt, almond milk, L-Theanine, Manuka honey, and cinnamon. Mickelson filed for the trademark in June 2020, and soon after, he gave fans a sneak peek, placing a coffee mug with the brand’s logo behind his foot during the final round of the Memorial Tournament.
Coffee for Wellness was created to fuel not only golfers but anyone looking to add a health-conscious boost to their coffee routine. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments section below!
