The government relaxed social distancing rules this week to allow 1:1 coaching, but the FA said NO!

Boris Johnson said it’s OK for PT Instructors & Coaches to start doing 1:1 sessions from now on, whilst abiding by social distancing measures. “Great!” the goalkeeping world thought and started to book sessions after being in lockdown for about 6 weeks… Whilst Tennis coaches & PT instructors carried on, the FA decided to scrutinise the wording and said “Ah, but under our legislation, if you’re a child under 18 then you have to have a parent present at the session.” “Yes, fine” we thought… “This then means there’s more than 2 people present which the government haven’t authorised.”… Why, oh why would the FA do this ? It makes no sense. If the player and coach are allowed to carry out a session with social distancing measures, and a parent stands off the training area (at least 4-5m) then there is no extra risk to any parties. It’s rules for rules sake. So we went ahead and had a great 1:1 session, keeping our distance and not touching any equipment other than the ball when I had goalkeeper gloves on. We cleaned our hands after the session with an anti-bacterial soap and we all went away happy we’d blown the cobwebs off. #gkunion
